Final Fantasy 13 will beat Mass Effect in all 3 territories, both first week and lifetime. The first Mass Effect sold well, but it wasn't anywhere near as big as Final Fantasy.

Heck Final Fantasys opening week should beat Mass Effects lifetime.

Unless ME 2 is surprising or FF13 is a diaspointment.

You know for it to do that FF 13 has to sell at the very least 2 million opening week..and thats if ME sells horrible its whole life.

I'm sorry but i just don't see that happening.

FFXIII should sell around 1.5 mil in Japan alone first week. With US PS3 and 360 sales, good sales would get close to 3-4 million for 1st week,. It would be fantastic of Mass Effect to get those kinds of sales.

Idk...that seems really high.

Wait when you think about it there is almost no way FF13 can do more in one week then ME2 ltd.  Because the Japanese PS3 version is coming out at a different time then the rest of the world :P

If you take out Japan...I still think FFXIII will have the higher opening. If your talking single platform, single territory, Mass Effect would probably win, but combined platforms and territories FFXIII will probably have a higher opening.

Hmm idk i guess i just don't see that happening.  I guess time will tell!

To sum up this thread:

360 fans: ME2 may not win NA but it will be better than FFXIII

Everyone else: FFXIII will sell more than ME2 everywhere and will be better too.

Personally, I really don't care what the sales of either games are but I know I'm picking up FFXIII and skipping ME2 even if it came to PS3. I simply prefer JRPGs to WRPGs.

People seem to think it's a crime for games to be linear nowadays. Everyone is looking for multiple endings, multiple paths etc. Movies are all linear but we still watch them multiple times. I've played ffxii(the awfully boring one) 3 times over. I didn't need multiple endings for motivation. I prefer straight forward storylines where all the effort goes into pushing that path not multiple half-assed paths. I'd also rather have 60 hours of playthrough in one storyline than play the game multiple times to get 60 hours because I want to see a different ending.

Though like I've said before, I expect Mass Effect 2 to be the better game when alls said and done. Believe it or not, I formulated this opinion by watching only trailers of ME2 and FFXIII. Thats Spike trailer looked, by all meaning of the word, astounding. Well, that and Bioware and Bethesda are the two greatest RPG devs ever.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

I've played ME on PC. With almost zero technical issues, seriously - I cant even remember there being any pop ups that are common for UE3 games. Whilst the game itself was a total dissapointment, from the technical point of view it was very well done, even though it wasnt ported by Bioware (as far as I know)

Yet it didnt make it score any better. http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/masseffect?q=mass%20effect

I really don't get how you guys think that ME2 just has to not have technical problems and it'll automatically get better reviews than the first ME. New IP's, especially large budgetted ones usually score better than their sequels because they're new and inventive. Just fixing the issues of ME will probably get it around the same Meta, but it doesn't ensure a higher score by any means.

The issues will be fixed in ME2 according to the devs. They also said they added a lot of fan suggested material. The story and gameplay of ME is something to take note of.

Games can be linear. Any game that dons the name RPG should not be linear....because it is an RPG.

There you go, it scored worse because the sparkle of newness was gone.

And ME scoring so highly with technical issues is not a testament to how amazing ME is, it is a testament to how Reviewers at large are willing to ignore technical issues when they really like a game.

I'm kind-of banking on FF13 banking in reviews (although I haven't seen a whole lot about ME:2 yet) barely and worldwide sales. I do think ME:2 will have higher first week sales though 'cause of U.S. boosting it.

Mass Effect had technical issues and still got large amounts of 9.0's. If FF had technical issues the games value would drop tremendously.

Well with the time it's taking for FF13 to be released, I'm sure there won't be many technical issues.  Still have to see some gameplay of both games (haven't checked out chinese FF13 demo stuff yet) before determining which will get better reviews.

I saw the FF Demo. It wasn't that great, but the story seems nice to me.

Sales FF13 >>> ME2

Actual game quality

ME2>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>FF13.

lol. Final Fantasy 13 should do at least 1.7 million in its first week in Japan. It's guaranteed 2.5 million first week world wide. Anything less than that would be a huge and utter disappointment. I'm talking about the PS3 version by itself of course. Combining the 360 version would be even worse.
