I can see how some fanboys got sucked into thinking this console was the greatest thing ever...it is pretty cool advertising I think. |
That's exactly the problem, it targets fanboys. Fanboys who want a PlayStation 3 already. All it does is get already existing fanboys energized and fills their heads with nonsense that they can then regurgitate to their friends until one of their friends punches them in the face. :)
Seriously, the rest of us see the sunflower thing, and as soon as the whole field lights up with flowers, my brain immediately says "fuck you" to the rest of the ad. It's such a turn-off for me, like Sony is trying to sell me a used car instead of a game console. The thing is, the second half of the ad is actually very cool. They show gameplay footage and talk about what developers can do with all that processing power, while showing a concrete example. If they just stuck to that and left all the BS out, they would have a great ad.
That's how I feel about Sony as a whole this generation. If they just stuck to what they were good at and stopped trying to BS people about every single little thing, whether it's Blu-ray, the Cell, the rumble in the controller, or whatever, people might actually respect what they're trying to do with gaming. But when you take this kind of shove-it-down-everyone's-throat approach, it's no wonder people "hate" Sony. This approach energizes just as many anti-Sony fanboys as it creates pro-Sony fanboys.
