Forums - Gaming - Oh the Irony!

@Legend11: "You oughtta know" The first one is irony, because most gamers (on the web) thought that the Wii's inferior graphics could never beat either of the high powered HD consoles. Many still believe that. Making the fact that the Wii, which was the under dog, is selling really well an example of irony. If we go by apperant v. intended theory this checks. If we go by the expected v. actual it is also a satisfactory example.

The second, like I described above, is ironic on the two circumstances and only fits the first model of irony completely, and arguably meets the second model. As I explained above.

This conversation is funny in itself. It has become popular to argue every time someone says "isn't it ironic". 99 spoons when all you need is a knife is irony, while rain on your wedding day is bad luck. Meeting the man of your dreams and THEN his beautiful wife is irony (if you are a single woman looking for a mate) and a free ride when you are already late is not irony unless you weren't expecting a free ride and were expecting to be on time.

Sorry for my slow response, "I've got one hand in my pocket and the other one is" typing this post. I am not exactly "head over heels" with the over use of the word irony, but it is hard to say something isn't irony because you never really can say what someones expectations are. "Don't you think"

Swallow that "jagged little pill".

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

To be fair, Gents, there is irony in the situation, even if Magera didn't properly point it out.

As I said in my edit, the car was bearing a Halo symbol, not a 360 symbol. The famous tagline for Halo right now is Finish the Fight. That car never finished.

That's some delicious irony.

nice spot, Dolla.

In England it is often said that, "American's don't understand irony". This thread made me lol.

Directly from AP English III:

There are three types of irony: dramatic, situational, and verbal. Dramatic irony occurs when a character is unaware of something the audience knows. Situational irony is when there is a difference between what is expected and what actually happens.  Verbal is when there is a contradiction between what is said and what is meant.

One would expect that the Halo 3 emblem would have no effect upon how the car races. However, the car ended up blowing an engine in a similar way to the X360s are so infamous for failing.

Also, one would expect that the Halo 3 tag line to have no effect upon the car's performance. However, the car ended up doing the opposite of the tag line and did NOT finish the fight.
