This is my theory: Alot of new age JRPG fans lost their RPG virginity to FFVII, and since it was a good game (not the BESTEST!! like some ppl will have you believe), those people felt that no other RPG could be better and place it as the best RPG ever made, so now there is alot of fanboy love for FFVII or anything Cloud or Sephiroth related. That and a whole bunch of people cried in a certain scene which I won't ruin for you if you decide to play it.
