What would this have to do with online? And why would it be inferior to the Wii?
Wii owners getting a replacement Wii from Nintendo have had their VC games and other data transfered over so a transfer feature must exist.
I'd imagine it's simply a matter of updating the Wii firmware prior to the release of the new console to allow a user to input the console ID number of Nintendo's new console into the Wii which will allow you to transfer via Wi-Fi to the new console. It's limited to just the one console ID to keep people from transfering VC games to multiple new consoles.

But then someone could put in someone else's console ID.
I think the next Nintendo machine is going to require authentication at Nintendo.com to access your VC library.
They revamped it a lot since the last time I was there so it looks like they're working on improving it.
My question is how does Nintendo's next online service limit something that it already does.

The new console would lock out all the VC games that don't match the actual new consoles ID number.

I'm sure they will have something to do that...it makes no sense not too (financially, of course, it does, but the backlash from people? - not worth it)...
Bah!

Close. A Wii Serial Number will do the trick. Or they could have everyone who wishes to upgrade make a Club Nintendo account, tie their Shop Channel to their Club Nintendo from their Wii, and then re-tie their Club Nintendo to the next console
Hopefully by then they'll have a full online system put together, and not the ad-hoc one they've had since 2005

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
