Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's worst-case scenario for E3 2009

But the thing is I bought the Wii to play new games, I honestly don't care if people didnt have a GC last gen, that's why the Wii is fully BC with it. Why waste devs time and resources making ports?

I know, easy money, good for Nintendo, but not good for me, therefore I dont like that and I hope that after the remaining 2 ports (MP2 and Chibi Robo) they end with them and focus on new games.

Why do you assume these are getting in the way of new games? Nintendo has just one team devoted to this. The rest are working on new games.

no the worst that can happen is they have basically a repeat of last year. Except this time they dont have WM+ to save their bacon!! But Nintendo will have a good show. They know they royally messed up last time

I think the best replay of that E3 is from Penny Arcade. Reggie said "We are rich as fuck, and here's a bunch of games you don't care about."

No bashing or complaining, but pretty honest.

@LTNK: No, actually the teams behind each port is the original team that made each one. So Retro is still busy making NPC MP2 and were busy making NPC MP, while at one point Camelot was busy making NPC Mario Tennis, the Pikmin team was busy making the 2 ports, EAD was busy making NPC DK: JB and Skip is still busy making Chibi Robo NPC.

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

That article was lame.....

The worst-case scinerio would be all the great developers show up to tell us that they are working on a console zelda, pikmin 3, ect. Then a meteor crushes the building, killing all the nintendo developers.

Lol

Now THAT is a worst case scenario!

Where did you hear this?

And even if that's true, those still don't take that much time. Ports are not inexpensive, but they aren't time consuming either. Plus since original games need to be designed before developing, the ports could be done during that time. Thus they might be just filling time while they plan their next game.

And where did you hear the contrary? I'm not making this up. Just browse on the web and you will find it. Retro handled both MP and MP2 ports, I doubt they were the ones handling the other projects. Plus there's been some things going on with Retro for example, some top members left because of rumoured troubles with Nintendo. It's logical, first they are used to handle ports, and now with the IGN rumour that said that the Zelda game they were working on was taken away from them, I doubt they are happy. But that's completely another subject.

Of course ports take up less time, but they do take time. And taking time away from talented devs to make ports is ridiculous. Where are the games from these teams? They have been busy making the ports and it's not a coincidence none of them has announced anything but the ports.

I had heard it in some report. Whatever.

And you're still assuming the ports got in the way, when there are no reports of that. You just assumed that was part of the motives those people left. That's not logical. That's just you trying to find something to blame on this.

Ports have been around since home consoles and arcades. Acting as though the Wii should be exempt just makes you look ignorant of all of gaming history.

But the least Nintendo needs right now is to drive away their core fans with ports, new games are always better. But let's just stop, E3 is near.
