Forums - Website Topics - How long have locked threads been pushed to the bottom of the list?

I just noticed this.  Mind you, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's the FIRST time I've noticed this, but anyway. 

Why is this?  Are locked threads so bad we can't even look at them?  I think it would be nicer if they were up there in normal chronological order -- well, no, I guess that wouldn't USUALLY be bad but sometimes when spam threads flood the forum it would mean the issue couldn't really be fixed. 

Well, failing that, maybe there could be a button to jump down to where they start (currently page 82 on this forum)?  I guess I don't know the feasibility of that; it would have to "follow" that part of the list to different pages as the number of threads increases.  I would guess it's doable and easy, but I'm pretty ignorant of web design...

Hmm.  This was never a major issue by any stretch of the imagination, and I think I just talked myself down so that it's miniscule indeed; the only reason I'm even posting this thread instead of deleting it and forgetting about it is that I'm curious if anyone can answer the thread title for me.

It has always been that way on these forums from what I can remember. Most forums I've ever visited worked this way too.




If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

@ nordlead: My train of thought did get around to realizing a very good reason for pushing them down. I guess if you can tell me you consider your memory pretty reliable on this point then my question is more or less answered. ("always")

No, it's so spam doesn't clutter the top page of the thread list. Locked threads may still be interesting for a person to discover and read. The fact that you can't reply doesn't make a thread not worth reading ... but pushing locked threads to the bottom gives a method for mods to "clear the room" if the forum gets spammed. So it's a necessary thing to do, but it would still be nice if there was an easy way to see the locked ones.

man there have been some gold/epic threads over the years...(damn cant believe ive been a member since 07... and was a lurker for 6 months before that)

I never thought id say this but i kinda miss huss... there is a difference between him and current crazy sony fans I always felt he believed almost every thing he said he was the embodiment of the hardcore sony faithful, maybe they have changed ... and as a result huss could no longer exist

 

edit on topic there are quite a few locked threads i wish wernt, and a few old threads im glad to see are not locked .... there is one i like to bring back every christmas to see how the prior batch of ideas went a thread that predates me ...

Yeah, I remember very well when I crossed swords with Hus. He was one of those people that just absolutely could not handle the fact that the PS3 was in 3rd place, horribly expensive, etc.
These people were Playstation fans. They had never known defeat; the old king of the industry was constantly on the retreat from the Sony onslaught (in marketshare anyway). When confronted with the failure of their prophet, and the return of the king(TM), they reacted by blinding themselves to the unpleasant truth, and some of them, like Hus, went a step farther and began to see the opposite: that it was selling more, that it wasn't that expensive, etc. Needless to say, this made for epic meltdowns every time they were put in a position where they could not avoid the facts, and since we're on a sales charts forum, well ...

Most of these people have either reformed (at least partially), been banned, stopped trying to convince other people of the "truth", or at least stopped making claims that can easily and instantly be proved absolutely wrong on the spot. In a way, this is not as refreshing, because they are hiding their true nature, whereas Hus wore his insanity proudly and without self-consciousness. But that's what natural selection does in a case like this.

There are a few of the "old guard" still hanging around, like CrazzyMan. You can see the same mindset in the analysis he did where he attempted to show that the PS3 was doing as well or better than the PS2 did (I forget which offhand). But he and the others who are still around are still around because they didn't have the same batshit insane in-your-face style as the others like Hus.

So yeah, it's a different forum now.

Ever since we got the ability to lock threads.

Aside from the obvious spam reasons, usually when we lock a thread it's because the content is in some way inappropriate, so we push it to the bottom to get it off the front page of the forum/hot topics.
