Forums - General - North-Korean Nuclear test

Alright, so, the most creepy nation on earth is at it again, for the second time apparantly while writing this post:

http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/05/24/nkorea.nuclear/index.html

I still don't see why the international community invaded Iraq, while I personally fear the North-Koreans and it's government more then what Sadam had in militairy power and overall torture to it's own people.

By the way, this is not to incite debate on the whole Iraqi war but North-Korea. What is the solution to this probrem?

North Korea can essentially demolish Seoul at will if attacked, has no exploitable resources, and has nuclear weapons (albeit in limited capability) which can cause all kinds of hell in a worst-case scenario. Plus it has significant strategic value from a chinese point of view.

Basically, taking NK out is far more trouble than it's worth.

They just testes a second nuke, and a short range missile. Japan has called for an Emergency UN meeting.

Say goodbye to North Korean.

NK is going to stay for a while. It wouldn't be easy to take it down.... and right now the world doesn't like challenges (That's why the US is in Iraq!).

go back in time and tell that general to go ahead with his plans to nuke everything - problem solved!

It would take the US military a week, maybe two.

Remove there government, and give the country to China. Problem solved.

I'm torn between this working or not. A war/invasion is not gonna happen anytime soon but I'm meaning the occupation by China. On the one hand China wouldn't mind the extra ground, people and border with South Korea. On the other hand they gain a spec of land which is piss poor and in need of aide. And lacking in natural resources.

I do think the people of NS wouldn't mind a Chinese government.

China needs communist allies, even if they are just fake ones... they dont want NK... what cpould tehy do with that small piece of land?

But again, IMO this is good news, there needs to be a ballance of power, and small, dicatatorical countries manage to keep that up :P I know that I will be flamed for my views, but I dont see why countries like the US or France have the right to test and develope if want nuclear weapons, and other countries dont. I know that the country itself is poor and people are dieing of hunger, but simply stopping the tests wouldent solve their issues :| Koreans are not evil, yes I can understand that osme of you might be afaraid of its leadership, but to generalize a whole country because of a handfull of people in suits is just wrong :|

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

This is not unexpected as North Korea stated it was going to resume its nuclear program. The speed with which it was conducted is unexpected, but the test itself is not. If the blast is as large as reports indicate, then this is a mildly remarkable achievement for North Korea...especially considering that its previous test was unsuccessful. What is the solution? That is the million dollar question. Whatever the solution is, the key is undoubtedly China. Although China's response was late and marginally weaker than the response to the 2006 test, their appears to be growing dissatisfaction with the North's actions within China. It will be interesting to see if China supports additional sanctions.

with the 4.7 magnitude scale recorded it shows it didn't reach its intended yield, it would seem to indicate a uranium device not plutonium grade, and since 5 time uranium smuggling has been intercepted now,. from smuggling uranium and uranium rods, from where the smuggling is coming from and where its going might seem to show North Korea is Iran's testing sight.
