to be honest, the sega cd was more of an add on, the turbografx was a huge success on japan and the Neo Geo lasted almost 10 years.
| rafichamp said: I didnt say Neo Geo sucked as a console, but it was a failure, like in a Sega way. My opinion is that Atari Jaguar is number 1. |
If the Neo Geo is a failure, how did it manage to last from 1990 to 2004 before finally being retired?
On-Topic: I honestly have to disagree with that list a lot. The people who wrote the article probably didn't know that the PC-Engine (that's Tg-16 in Japan) did so well in Japan.
Here's my list of top 7 system failures:
7. Atari Lynx (Didn't last to long & was quickly slain by the Gameboy.)
6. Wonderswan Color (How long did that system last when the GBA was released in Japan?)
5. N-Gage (Just another assailant trying to overthrow the GBA, pretty self explanatory.)
4. Atari Jaguar (Well, at least there's Iron Soldier, AVP, Tempest 2000, Rayman, & a couple other good games.)
3. N64-DD (So much wasted potential. That & released too late.)
2. Apple/Bandai Pippin (Self-Explanatory)
1. Game.com (As assailant that wasn't even trying. Though it did at least have an accessory that allowed for you to go on the internet (very primitive!) or so I heard)
I LIKE REDMOON ONLINE. IT'S TEH MOST AWESOMEST MMORPG. RUNESCAPE HAS NOTHING ON IT. ;) My full Videogame collection (Well, not really that full): http://www.backloggery.com/marktheshark I'LL COOL YOUR ANGER WITH AN ICE SPIRIT BLAST!!!!111111!!!!!!111!!!!1!!! First off, the Neo Geo wasn't a failure. It was never meant to be a significant venture in the first place. It was just SNK Playmore deciding that they wanted to release their already-existent arcade system as a home console. It didn't require any R&D costs, and they already had a huge library thanks to the fact that EVERY game running on their arcade systems was automatically compatible with the home console. It was by and far NOT a failure.
Secondly, the Apple Pippin is most definitely the biggest videogame console failure. Hello, only 42,000 units sold.

What about the Phillips CD-I? That was truly a piece of crap.
I do have a question for the Op. Have you played any of the consoles you are bashing?
Gamecube, Playstation 3. Both EPIC FAIL!

@ sonic, Gamecube yes, PS3 we still dont know yet.

In the most simple and extremely fanboy biased ways I can see why someone would make this arguement. It is completely wrong though. The Gamecube was both profitable, and kept a stron enough image to justify the launch of another console which has been massively successful. The PS3 has gone from an extremely dismall launch and very rough first year to respectable sales. It has cost the company in question a lot of money, but is still doing well enough to pobably justify a successor. So long as the company continues to invest in the same market then their previous entries cannot possibly have been that big a failure. If they were then there would be no reason to continue to try a similar product. See Atari Lynx and Jaguar for examples.

It is rare that someone thanks me for saying they are completely wrong, but I will take it. Any logical arguement for the PS3 being anything but a failure works for the Gamecube you claim is a failure. Quite the odd contradiction honestly.
