In the most simple and extremely fanboy biased ways I can see why someone would make this arguement. It is completely wrong though. The Gamecube was both profitable, and kept a stron enough image to justify the launch of another console which has been massively successful. The PS3 has gone from an extremely dismall launch and very rough first year to respectable sales. It has cost the company in question a lot of money, but is still doing well enough to pobably justify a successor. So long as the company continues to invest in the same market then their previous entries cannot possibly have been that big a failure. If they were then there would be no reason to continue to try a similar product. See Atari Lynx and Jaguar for examples.
