Forums - Gaming - Sonic Rush Adventure - 79.6% on Game Rankings

Well, the new 'Sonic Rush Adventure' game has been reviewed by many reviewers, on Game Rankings, and its total percentage is only 79.6% (counting the highlighted reviewers), or 80.7% (counting all reviewers). Personally, I view all games, 80%, or higher, as 'good' games. Anything below, I view as 'mediocre,' or 'bad.' There are too many games with higher reviews than around 80% anyways, and this is a Sonic game... Sonic the Hedgehog... Sonic should be in the high 80% range, or 90% range, not the low 80% range, or less.

If you counted the percentage of 'all reviewers,' and not the percentage of 'highlighted reviewers,' you will find that Sonic Adventure 1, and Sonic Adventure 2, for the Sega Dreamcast, recieved higher reviews than every other Sonic game after it, 2D, 3D, Advance, Rush, Rivals, whatever. This being the case, I think this shows that it was not the 3rd dimension that killed Sonic, but his leap to other consoles, after the Dreamcast died, that diminished the little, blue guy. Personally, I liked the 3D Sonic games on the Dreamcast, more so than all the 2D Sonic games, after the death of the Dreamcast.

Anyways, I haven't played Sonic Rush Adventure, but my hopes aren't too high for it, since it did recieve a 'good' score, but not a 'Sonic good score.' I can see where one point was lost, and that's in the title of the game. 'Sonic Rush Adventure?' That's just hilarious... It's a joke... Literally... What do you get when you cross 'Sonic Rush,' with 'Sonic Adventure?' 'Sonic Rush Adventure!' Bad... bad... title... It's awkward, it's confusing, and it's just dumb.

The scores seem pretty meh, kinda like I expected the game to be. However, I am a pretty big Sonic fan so I'll probably be picking this up.

You put too much stock in reviews. The games pretty damn good so far.

In any case, 8 reviews is hardly anything. You shouldn't be making topics like this until a game has 20-30 reviews in GR.

Also keep in mind that the Sonic Adventure titles didn't age very well. Theres a reason reviews keep saying that the 2D titles are far better then the 3D title. The Adventure titles where good for their time, but if they where released the same day as Sonic Rush Adventure with up to date graphics, they'd recieve 6s and 7s. These games where released a long time ago, and their scores cannot be directly compared to scores of the newer games, because standards change with time. SA2:B on the Gamecube averaged in the low 7s, released just 9 months later with improved graphics and a few additional features. If anything, the Adventure titles where overrated, even in their day.

80% is good for a Sonic game regardless, I disagree with your notion that just because it's Sonic, it should score in the high 8s and 9s. We can't expect a Sonic game like that for a couple more years, BioWare RPG aside. The franchise has a lot of kinks to work out.

Actually, it has 16 reviews (79.6% - 8 highlighted reviews) (80.7% - 16 total reviews). And I disagree with your Sonic Adventure theory... The Dreamcast originals are far better than the Gamecube ports. The Gameboy Advance games don't compare to the Adventure games. In many "what Sonic game is your favorite?" websites, many people chose Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, 3, CD, Adventure 1, and 2, but no one chose the Advance ones. The Adventure games didn't age well to you, but to many others, they are still classics. The reviews are all games are not perfect, so just take them as they are. Sonic Rush Adventure is not better than Sonic Adventure 1, and 2, and neither are any other 2D, or 3D Sonic games, after Sonic Adventure 2. If you don't believe the Game Rankings scores, than choose to believe what you want. Game Rankings is nothing but a pile of opinions anyways. But I personally like the Adventure games better, as well as many others. But, I have to say that all 2D Sonic games are better than any 3D Sonic game after Sonic Adventure 2.

I'm currently playing Sonic Rush Adventure and all I can say is that if you liked Sonic Rush, go for it. I find the pseudo-RPG elements a bit annoying, and sea navigation superfluous...The story? I'm skipping everything. And by everything I mean everything, these critters are way too talkative, and I couldn't care less about what's going on, why Sonic has crashed into an island, and why there's a Pirate Robotnik or whatever.

I'd rather have a straight platform game, with minimal story and no stylus fluff like the watercraft levels. But when it comes to the platforming, this is as good as Sonic Rush, and hence a very decent 2D Sonic game. There are less bottomless pits this time, so I'm finding it a bit easier, but in the end, there's a lot of fast-paced fun to be had with this title.

if IGN, Eurogamer, Gamespot have it at 8 of 10 it must be a ggret game.
Eurogamer is very difficult to please.

Heeeeyyyy!!!! <Snap>

So is Gamespot; this is a good game although too familiar with the first one (not a bad thing, that).

No....I'm not quite sure what your looking at, but the game only has 9 reviews on Game Rankings, and only 8 are being used in the actual score because ONM is still a fairly new magazine. The other articles are previews.

And if you actually read the reviews your using in this topic, for Rush and Rush Adventure, you'll see they say things like "best Sonic game since the Genesis days" and "better then the 3D ones". I haven't read a critical review yet saying the Dreamcast titles are better.

This may be your opinion, but it is not an opinion held by critics or anyone outside of the Sonic fan community. Secret Rings was considered the best 3d Sonic yet by critics, and it scored a 70%. I doubt the Adventure titles would score any better if released today.

Sonic Adventure, and Sonic Adventure 2, are far greater than any other Sonic game after it. Sure, "some" people say that Sonic and the Secret Rings is the best 3D Sonic game, but more would disagree. Sure, "some" people say that Rush, and Rush Adventure are the best Sonic games since the Genesis days, but more would disagree. Everything works out in such a way as to just look at the scores in Game Rankings, which puts all the games at their place. If the games do not score higher than the Adventure games, they aren't better, as seen as a whole, of all the reviewers. You are wrong.

Critics often said the same about Sonic Heroes, a game that the Sonic community hates on a level even greater than Shadow the Hedgehog. At the end of the day SA and SA2 are regarded substantially higher than the 3D games that followed, because 1) They are better games; and 2) Upon their initial release they were regarded as exceptional games that successful brought Sonic to 3D. Unfortunately the 3D games that followed were mediocre, and painful affairs that were practically unplayable, however there is little correlation for the work done on the Dreamcast and that which followed.
