Forums - Website Topics - The official VGChartz 2.0 Thread

I love the new features!
- Others/Worldwide mothly yearly charts.
- Wishlists (although I wish games on my wishlist did not show up in my games collection.)

It does seem a bit busy and a bit too wide. I would have preferred clean and simple. Not sure about the new dark look. Maybe I am just too used to the old layout, so I will give it a chance.

Figured it out. It was my stupid Google toolbar, trying to Autofill. I disabled Autofill, and now it's black.

Both of my main complaints have been fixed, and for that, I thank the team. Now it's just a matter of getting used to the new design (which won't take long )

1.Allot of the Rich Text Editor bugs are still there in Chrome but are now fixed in Firefox.

2.Also, the pop-up dialogs (in the Rich Text Editor) still are blank. (Firefox and Chrome)

3.I still can't choose the color of my tables either.

When these bugs are fixed I think I'll be set.

4.Apparently I'm supposed to be able to edit my thread titles but can't

How do you search the forums now??? i can see game search but not site search...

Heh, while colour scheme may be a subjective thing, it looks like most of us agree that what's wrong are some missing useful homepage features compared to the old version.

About colour scheme: as sometimes I find black text on white background almost as eye-tiring as white on black, a trick I learned in CG and bioimaging courses is to lower excessive contrast and brightness, either through monitor settings, or better, to avoid unnecessary washing-out of other screen areas, by chosing when possible a very pale light blue or light green or light yellow (avoid pale pink, it's not as good for reading) instead of bright white for background in text areas.

The "golden rule", IIRC is: 1) avoiding shocking pink/yellow/purple/red/etc backgrounds; 2) avoiding red on green and vice versa; 3) avoiding perfectly complementary colours, like pure orange on pure blue, yellow on navy blue is a lot more relaxing, for example, another coupling easy on the eyes is what I wrote above, avoiding pure white as background, chosing instead a mild, very pale and light colour.

With all due respect, I'm not a huge fan of the redesign. A couple of bullet points for you:

- The front page is enormously cluttered. Honestly, I love the information provided by this site, but it can be done with more clarity. A lot of the new features seemed designed to be flashy without serving any real purpose, like the upside-down "reflection" in the percentage on the bar graphs. I have also always hated the concept of having a website scroll between multiple main stories on an auto-timer, but everyone seems to be doing this now, sigh. I can't really fault VGChartz for going with the crowd.

- The new color/text.... well, it's not good. As many have posted, it looks way too much like the Gamespot forum design, and that's a bad thing because the Gamespot forums are one of the cesspools of the Internet. This accidental imitation is not a good thing. Furthermore, orange text on dark gray is not aesthetically pleasing to the eye, and even the white text on a gray background doesn't come across well. Black text on a white background is far easier to read.

- I can't seem to right-click on the tabs at the top of the screen, which I do often to open a second window or tab. I'm sure that many others have reported this by now.

Anyway, overall it's not terrible, but it's not a look that I particularly like. Is there an option to revert back the previous design for those who preferred it? I know that a number of the forums I visit have multiple viewing options, and that might be a nice solution for those with divergent opinions.

Naturally these are only my opinions, and should be regarded as such.

My Website

End of 2008 totals: Wii 42m, 360 24m, PS3 18.5m (made Jan. 4, 2008)

OK, I made a mock up to show what my idea was for the colour coding.... It doesn't look as good as I wanted it to though, so I think just leaving it as it is (with "Nintendo discussion" etc highlighted works best.

I will say though, DS and PSP sepeartion needs to come back, in addition to taking the colour text from the weekly charts (like there is a column for the "Wii" icon, then the game title in white or whatever)

I will be posting the image here if I can (image popup box is still blank)

Nevermind.... it is in my album "random", which is here:
http://www.vgchartz.com/photos/album.php?album=873

Damn... it really shrunk the image.... I will put it on photobucket.

I found what seems to be a glitch. I've been adding games to my "Wishlist" and for some reason, about half of what I added so far has appeared in my actual game list.

I also have a request for the future. Will we (or other users) be able to sort our game lists by other criteria besides console (such as genre, etc.)

Thanks.

it takes my 6 Mbit connection 28 seconds to load Vgchartz now what he heck?

this black color scheme with all the colors is very straining to read, the console icons look to similar, hot topics arent on first page and so on :(

please bring back the design of Vgchart 1.0 with the upcoming features of VGchartz 2.0!
