No, the PS2 is still the standard bearer for this gen and none of the current consoles have come anywhere near having the types of quality games that the PS2 had by Christmas 2001 when ICO, Grand Theft Auto IV, Jak and Daxter, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, Final Fantasy X, and Metal Gear Solid 2: Guns of the Patriots were released let alone for the seven years that followed that one.
The only current gen console that looks it might have a shot to rival the quality of games that were on PS2 is the PS3.

That is so true, can't deny what The Xbox man says.

I'm shocked no one has brought up the four dollars and seventeen cents that Xbox Live Cost to try and down play that..or have they
Actually in regard to the ops post about Call of Duty 2 and his comment that hundreds of better games have been released on 360 since then which would really be impressive, I just did a check on Game Rankings and found out that only 20 games better than Call of Duty 2 have been released on 360 between Call of Duty 2's release in 2005 and the present day.
Also Call of Duty 2's Game Rankings score is 89.84. That means that since that time almost four years ago the 360 has only managed to have 20 games with a Game Rankings score greater than 89.84.
Now if we look at PS2 and its first four years, we see that according to Game Rankings between its release in 2000 and the end of 2004, the PS2 had 42 games with Game Rankings scores of 90 or above.
The conclusion that can be reached from this data is that if the 360 is the standard bearer for this generation so far then it is a rather poor one especially in comparison to the last gen.
Now if we look at the other two current gen consoles, we see that the PS3 released a year later than the 360 already has 13 90 and above games (with many more high quality exclusives on the way from highly talented Japanese designers while it will continue to get the same Western games as does the 360) and thus far the Wii has so far managed to get 10 games with 90 or above scores at Game Rankings, however, quite a few of these games currently have only one review, so it can be expected in a few weeks that the Wii will actually have a lower number once again and for the rest of this gen it will probably continue to miss out on the best versions of games from Western third parties unlike PS3 and 360.
So, once again the conclusion reached is that if the 360 is this gen's standard bearer it is a rather poor one compared to last gen's standard bearer, but in all likelihood by the end of the gen, the PS3 will wind up being this gen's standard bearer.
Yeah, the X360 is pretty much the standard bearer this gen, because it's become almost like the "deufault" console in this gen.
Whenever I hear people in the media, in Sweden as well as in North America, mention they llike to play console games in their free time, they usually say I/we play the "Xbox" (meaning the X360 obviously). It's usually a sports star or music artist or just a random guy on TV, they often most refer to the 'Xbox' a lot more often than to the 'Playstation'.
MS and the X360 really conquered the mindset of gamers and media in this gen.
(of course Im not taking away any glory from the Wii, this mostly applies to Xbox vs PS)
When it comes to HD consoles, then yes to a certain distance. But IMO the PS3 exclusives are more then enough so we can state that it already caught up the 360 :) And as Montana stated we cant say this to the entire market, because the Wii/PC/Handheds are not included...
Vote the Mayor for Mayor!
IMHO XBOX360 came out a year ahead of its competitors, its devkits were in the hands of developers long before that. It has been the defacto standard as far as HD gaming is concerned.
Multiplayer games and FPSs were popularized by xbox/xbox360 and XBOX live is what everyone else is trying to beat/emulate. So for HD gaming XBOX360 is the standard (for now).
As far as which company has executed well this gen is concerned there is no doubt that Nintendo has done extremely well. Regardless of the fact that there are less highly ranked games on Wii it has managed to sell a huge number of games.
