Yes, year over year the 360 has increased in sales, but at the same time Microsoft has also had tweaked price every year since the PS3 appeared to this point. Constant price revisions usually are not a good sign.

Obviously the assumption in this thread is that:

360 will receive no further price cuts
360 will receive no more AAA games
360 has or is reaching market saturation
Sony knows what they are doing

Of course all of these assumptions are baseless just like 98% of the uninformed analysis in this thread.

Has someone said the obligatory "360 is doomed when *insert list of games coming out that you care about and have deluded yourself into believe everyone else also cares about* are released?"

The price cut, which is everyone will constantly be reminded as the only reason the 360 outsells the ps3 and was a panic move by MS, will be the ps3's saviour and the greatest thing to happen?

the price difference between the 2 consoles focusing only on the cheapest 360 and most expensive ps3 as to why the 360 is selling better but also why the ps3 should be selling better?

point out that with those prices the 360 is only just outselling the ps3 and therefore doomed because when one product outsells another it means that it's about to be outsold and run out of the game completely.
I should point out that if you are going to use the last point then you could also look to the past for instance "align launches" to back up your argument. But if you are you must ignore the fact that your product of choice sales have actually dropped from last year whilst the other has risen.

But if one products sales have dropped and one has risen and is increasing its lead over another then you need to start coming up with a new way of using skewed stats and figures as "aligned launch" figures will eventually swing in favour to your opponent.

That means you have proven your point without a shadow of a doubt and this thread can be locked.

The thing is, this gen being 3rd place is not bad, which is very good for the industry. The 360 has been out for a year longer then the PS3, if you compare them both from PS3's release date, the PS3 would be outselling the 360 by 3.5m units.

Funny thing,

The PS3 had a 3.63 Million launch aligned lead 8 weeks ago and is now down to a 3.40 Million launch aligned lead.

So even the launch aligned lead is starting to vanish...

Even if the ps3 does eventually outsell the 360, it will be so late in the gen that it really wont mean much.

Race is on for PS3 and 360 to get to 50 million console sales. This will determine second place in console wars.

I believe that PS3 stands a good chance of getting to 50 million sales before 360. 360 may only sell 50 million console units lifetime but PS3 should sell 70 million+ consoles ltd.

there was a race for 30, then the first to 40 million, both of which had numerous threads last year..... and most of the year sony was expected to take both. 

i also remember in 07 when it was thought the 360 might sell 30 million in its life time ....

i still feel your low balling 360 sales nless for some reason MS cuts its legs off before 2012 when i have slated for the earliest of the next gen launches
