can anyone post ps2 top 10 third party games so we can close this thread.

I'm feeling bored, so here you go:

1. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - 17.82m
2. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - 14.20m
3. Grand Theft Auto III - 11.60m
4. Final Fantasy X - 7.95m
5. Need for Speed: Underground - 6.49m
6. Need for Speed: Underground 2 - 6.38m
7. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - 5.58m
8. Kingdom Hearts - 5.50m
9. Final Fantasy X-2 - 5.21m
10. Final Fantasy XII - 5.10m

4 games over 10 million??? thats really not as many as i expected.

I mean come on! they sold over 120 million PS2's

There are over 1500 PS2 game iirc. More games means less chance for a game to sell more, because of a constant flow of new games.

Wait, I pieced it together... I'm with you up to "debunked your excuse." I think  that's actually remarkable.

How does the sentence "That's over how many years, Man?" transform into an "excuse" that can be "debunked"?

You keep using this word... I do not think it means what you think it means  :)

...

Missed this post.  I thought we were done but here goes:

You used the excuse that the PS3 has been out for less years than the GC to justify its lower first-party software sales.  I then debunked your point by comparing the GC sales to the PS2 ones (as the PS2 has been out for almost twice as long and has quadruple the sales).  Furthermore, I only used the word 'debunk' once (up until now).  Remarkable, isn't it?

Missed . I thought we were done but here goes:

You used the excuse that the PS3 has been out for less years than the GC to justify its lower first- . I then debunked your point by comparing the GC sales to the PS2 ones (as the PS2 has been out for almost twice as long and has quadruple the sales). Furthermore, I only used the word 'debunk' once (up until now). Remarkable, isn't it?

So in other words, you interpreted my question, "that's over how many years, Manuelf?"

As me actually saying: "Well of course the PS3 hasn't sold as much 1st party software as the GC, it hasn't been out for as long. But once the PS3 is out for as long as the GC, it will sell as much or more 1st party software as a nintendo system, proving that Sony systems sell as much 1st party software as a nintendo system.

(This is the argument you inferred, right?)

And then you came along and "debunked" the thing you thought I must be saying by showing that, in fact, Nintendo sells way more  1st party software than Sony, because the GC outsold the PS2. I'm pretty sure I've got this right, though I can't believe I've put as much time into understanding what you've said as I have.

What's remarkable is that not only did I not say any of those things beyond the initial question, I didn't even think them! I think you have a sony-fan phantom haunting that brain of yours, my fiery friend! Don't you think it's a little remarkable you jumped to the conclusion that I was trying to make such a specific argument, with that one question of mine?

In fact, I was asking Manuelf whether he was looking at the first 2 or 3 years of the Gamecube's software sales or the lifetime sales. I was curious because I wanted to see how PS3 first party sales compared to other less-succesful consoles of the past, and I was wondering whether the sales listed were over similar timeframes, which would be an interesting thing to see... wouldn't it? Your conclusion that I was trying to argue that Sony has first party sales to rival Nintendo assumes both that I already knew the answer to the question I was asking, and that I was interested in making that argument -- which I wasn't, and remarkably, I am still not to this very day!

Your conclusion that I was "making an excuse"... interesting stuff! I suppose if you take a walk in a war zone eventually someone's going to aim a gun at you! Enjoy fighting the good fight :)

However, in the future, you might want to let someone actually make an argument before you "debunk" it so valorously.

my household has bought 4 ps2s...I'm sure we aren't unique.

bought 2 PS2s... only console I bought 2x of (besides DS but that was for making gifts =)

PS2 userbase is probably at 80M or so... (maybe lower but not higher).

Basically do GT3 + 1/2 GT4 and you have a 25% attach ratio for the series on 80M... that sounds about correct, so I keep my estimation of 80M.

LOL @ damage control moving in. You have a thread that cherry picks it's numbers and gets owned and Rol makes a joke thread with some truth behind it and everyone thinks they need to dispute it, seriously guys loosen up, Ps2 sold software get over it, take a joke.

Now for the GC vs PS3 game sales that is rather interesting lol never noticed that before, I wonder if anyone has attach rates for GC at the same point in it's life that PS3 is at now.

Yeah, something tells me GC first-party sales would STILL be significantly higher over three years, since the GC data listed was only from five years, according to theRepublic.  Which isn't really surprising -- Nintendo makes good games, whether they're at the bottom or on top!

Agreed and they have a large base of buyers no matter what, many buying a GC only for SSBM and Mario Kart.  But seeing some attach rate numbers vs PS3 would be pretty interesting, since everyone seems to harp on the quality of their titles and how well they sell for a small userbase, if GC had better attach rates for an even smaller userbase, it'd be very interesting.

Well if Nintendo is so good at selling first party games than why did Excite Bots sell less copies than I have profile views in it's first ten days? Explain that to me.

Yeah that's great for last gen, but so far this gen Sony is a beast with its first party games. Top PS3 games published by Sony

1. Resistance - 3.59
2. Motorstorm - 3.48
3. GT5P - 3.02
4. Uncharted - 2.34
5. LBP - 2.19
6. Killzone 2 - 1.59
7. Resistance 2 - 1.54
8. Ratchet & Clank - 1.47
9. Heavenly Sword - 1.36
10. Singstar - 0.84

So far this gen, after only 2.5 years and only a 21 million userbase to work; with 9 of Sony's top 10 selling games are million sellers. Imagine what it will be after 9 years like the PS2 is almost at.

So while your arguement is great for a solution if it was last gen, it doesn't really count this gen... except for with the 360 which has 12 million sellers after 3.5 years and a 30 million userbase. Not much better than Sony.

Beast?

  1.  Halo 9.61M
  2. Gears 1 5.88M
  3. Gears 2 4.88M
  4. Forza 2 3.98M
  5. Fable 2 2.72M
  6. Mass Effect 2.04M
  7. PGR4 1.68MM
  8. Crackdown 1.49M
  9. Viva Pinata 1.45M
  10. PGR3 1.39M

Also there are no 5M sellers in the PS3 list and most of those PS3 games have had either a huge price cut or noticeable bundling whilst Forza 2 is the only heavily bunded game on the Xbox 360 in the top 5.

Tease.

Don't argue with the man Squilliam. The PS3 is a beast with it's first party games. Face the facts.
