Forums - Nintendo - High Voltage: The Conduit wont suffer Madworld sales fate

I haven't followed development of this game too much. Is the control scheme similar to that of Metroid Prime 3?

If so, that will automatically make it better than most of the FPS games I've played in my life.

The controls were insprired and borrowed from Metroid Prime 3 Corruption as well as other games. Read about it on it's wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Conduit

Honestly, there is a ton of reasons why this game is at least worth pursuing.

EDIT:

The highest selling FPS game on the Wii is Metroid Prime 3 ,1.53 Million sales , A more recent addition is Call Of Duty 5 which sold 1.17 Million.

Here are some considerations , to put this to rest...

-Metroid Prime Series & Call Of Duty are both very well recognised franchises , mabe COD moreso to the general consumer.
-Call Of Duty sold 5.46 Million on the 360 (more than 2X the Wii)with about 60% of the Wii's install base
-There's nothing about the Conduit that apears to apeal to the Wii Fit , Wii Play type demographic , this game is clearly aimed at the traditional gamer.
-Assuming that Conduit has as much as 50% the success Call Of Duty 5's success it will only sell around 550k

I think alot of Wii fans will be shocked/disapointed by the result.

I think you're being a tad too harsh. I understand your fears, but you should be a little more optimistic. The Metroid series still isn't as very well recognized as you may think (at least not here in europe), it's always been more that silent series that pops up once in a while but people would rather play the other multiplayer shooters. CoDWaW understandably sold less on Wii than it did on PS3/X360 as i'm sure a lot of people are aware that the game is totally inferior (bar controls) on Wii than the others. The story and art style of Conduit, as HVS said, was done to appeal to everyone

"The theme is very much in the mindset of going for that Hollywood blockbuster feel."

The game has potential to sell very well if HVS/SEGA play their cards right, i'm sure if they do TV adds, maybe of some of the trailers and show the awards the game has already won, it may catch some people's attention. It wont of course sell like Halo/CoD, but it can do pretty well.

How technical is your game?

Yes, and you can have COD in a lot of plataforms that can do better graphics, COD is more popular in the PC. The Conduit will be an exclusive game, that you only can find in the Wii.

Forget about COD, this is a multi plataform that is more about the multiplayer and graphics, you just can't compare both games, because as I already said, COD you can find in a lot of plataforms.

I think your missing the point , there isn't a signficant market for FPS's on the Wii , the only FPS's that have ever done well all have huge franchises behind them (With the exception of Red Steel , which I believe has alot of potential on the Wii).

There are 16 FPS games on the Wii, 44 on the PS3 and more than 50 on the 360. Some people might argue that this is due to a lack of proper research/willingness on the developers behalf but on the contrary , it's evident that market on the Wii for FPS games is too small to sustain that many.

Buzz words associated with Conduit are "great graphics" and "online deathmatch" ...these words mean nothing to the average Wii user. So I dont know how well this will do...

True, but there seems to be more demand for "gamers' games" on Wii than one might suspect. Look at Call of Duty 3 & 5.

It seems that the hurdle The Conduit will have to trump is new-IP-syndrome, than anything else

Ill try it for sure...hope its good and if so, hope it does well.

Not just similar, it's supposed to be better. Fully customized.

That is great to hear.

I also agree with some that FPS just aren't going to be as successful on the Wii as other platforms because of the typical audience of each platform, which is unfortunate, because the control configuration for FPS on the Wii is far superior for me, to even keyboard/mouse.

I really doubt this game will meet their expectations.

The look kinda reminds me of the old Marathon games.

Agree 100%. People rag on MadWorld, yet it wouldn't have sold any better on any other system. It was clearly a niche game. A very good and enjoyable niche game, but niche all the same.

Before the Wii came along, there was no market at all for motion controlled home consoles.

My point is that markets aren't like an ore vein lying around to be dug up or left in the ground. Markets are created by products. At one point, there was no market for FPS on any console, but games like GoldenEye and Halo came along and they were pretty fun, creating a market for FPS games on consoles. That market attracted more game development, cultivating even more market interest in shooting people on a home console.

So why do you think that this market cultivation only works on the 360 and PS3?

Wrong.  If it was sold on XBLA for $15, it would have pushed 1 mil+ copies.

Stop getting so excited about a Kid Icarus remake... the original NES Icarus sucked.
