Who exactly sets these standards? How do we know a game is GOTY? Based on reviews/rewards? From whom? There are hundreds of video game related media outlets....of course ME2 will win GOTY from at least one of them. Does that make it "the" game of the year? NOPE. That's like trying to say Saints Row 2 was GOTY 08 because two media outlets named it so. Most of us know realistically that MGS4/Fallout 3/LBP share that title, and as amazing as all three of them are, we cannot say that one of them is the GOTY.

I honestly feel sorry for ME2 if it gets released the same year as FFXIII because it will be completely destroyed. Like someone above me said the sales of FFXIII in Japan should be enough to take on ME worldwide. But we all know sales cant always speak towards a games quality....so let me make it extremely clear that FFXIII will dominate ME2 in that aspect as well.

Mass Effect is great....but it is nowhere near the quality of 80% of games that have "Final Fantasy" in the title. As for those of you who are calling it THE best RPG so far this gen. you should give Lost Odyssey a shot.

 

 

The only thing FFXIII will beat ME2 in is worldwide sales. :)

and gameplay, and graphics, and music, and value, and metascore, and number of awards.

 

 

 

Sorry, not that graphics matters, but if Mass Effect 2's graphics are far beyond part one like the devs say, then I cannot grant you that the graphics will be better. Secondly, the gameplay is far deeper in Mass Effect giving actual choice far beyond final fantasy, which is actually held back and restrained. I don't use Metracritic, because it can be easily altered and sabotaged by rival fanboys. However...remember my name, because you will see me laughing the day Mass Effect gets best RPG of 2010. JRPG's are not on a roll this gen, in fact, they are dwindling. WRPG's are growing in fanfare mainly due to games such as Fallout 3, Oblivion, Mass Effect and WOW. SE gets worse as a company where as Bioware just keeps pumping out classics. Haven't you even noticed Biowares amazing track record as of late? Any company can fall, but the only company showing sight of desperation is Square Enix.

I thought Bioshock was 2007 Game of the Year and Persona 3 was 2007 RPG of the Year.

How can Mass Effect have a GOTY edition then?

 

Even though this is off-topic, the same applies to Fable 2. Did it even win RPG of the Year let alone Game of the Year or did MS just call them that because they felt like it?

Mass Effect was the best RPG of 2007 (Gamepro, IGN, Neoseeker,Spike TV awards 07) E3 considered it the best console RPG of 2007.Fallout 3 was the best RPG of 2008, 2009 is up in the air and 2010 will be Mass Effect 2 again.

I was just curious because Persona 3 FES cover says 2007 RPG of the Year on the cover.

Now if Fallout 3 was RPG of the year for 2008 then why does the new Elite Bundle have Fable II as a GOTY?

Fable 2 was one of the runners-up for GOTY on the 360.

Anyways, I can't really comment on Mass Effect. I started playing it months ago and stopped because it was a rental. Now I just picked it up and am working my way through it. I want an end game save so I can use it with ME2.

 

Anyways, I thought it was a sin on VGChartz to hype games.

One more thing. Final Fantasy XIII will not have the replay value of Mass Effect 2, because Mass Effect 2 will be played at least 2-5 times over again for different classes and outcomes, plus the extra bonus DLC will be there for sure.

The Final Fantasy XIII franchise will onto move on with Final Fantasy Versus, which pits the same characters, but is being considered even superior to FFXIII as an RPG. It looks like the JRPG fans are turning into Action game fans. They get to play a FF game in the real time without being held back by the main games battle system.

lol, STAGE. How in the world can you talk about the gameplay of either game when you haven't played either. Again with the replay value as well.

And Final Fantasy Versus XIII does NOT have the same characters and is being developed by an entirely different than FF13 is.

Well Final Fantasy XIII will be much longer, and I will bet you can spend 100 hours in 1 game file.

My first Mass Effect save file, when I completed the majority of the game, took me just under 25 hours
