You'd grind with the enimes you can see?

they are miles better than those stupid on screen monsters, they don't block treasure chests, dont follow you like madmans and don't travel in stupid patterns in which you have to follow a stupid pattern to aviod.

I can live with random encounters but I prefer to not have them. Like someone mentioned, it is a pain in the ass when you are trying to solve a puzzle and end up having to battle every 5-10 steps you take.
iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.
Currently playing:
Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

as long as it's not excessive, I actually like random encounters...
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
They are annoying. Things don't just pop up like that. Even in sneak attacks, things do not go that way.
I dont mind as long as its not too terribly excessive like moving 3 feet from the last encounter to get another one and so on. I do hate it when there are long introduction scenes for each and every battle though....pointless in my opinion
I prefer random encounters over seeing enemies anyday. Let me tell you why...
When you can see the enemies in a JRPG(xenosaga,Rogue Galaxy, Star Ocean 3, FFXII, etc) you always have a very scarce selection of enemies. Never enough to "Farm" or "power level" with. You also have to actually run out of the area, then return to get them to fucking re spawn which is ridiculous. FFXI and XII kind of rectified this a little with spawn times, and spawn limits, yet not entirely.
I miss being able to run around in circles like a 5yr old for a few seconds and getting to the battle. That was much more fun then scavenging around for a little generic monster that you fight once and then need to exit.

PSN:Forevercloud (looking for Soul Sacrifice Partners!!!)
The whole advantage of seeing monsters versus random encounters is the ability to avoid battles.
We wouldn't need this advantage if developers just let the freaking RUN command work though.
No random encounters. They have some in Kingdom Hearts II but they are quick. I'm okay with that but generally, when I see that a game has random encounters, I don't even want to play.
I agree with the OP. I can't stand them. I'd rather at least have a clue that I'm about to fight, like how Tales of Symphonia does
