Punch-Out!! will annihilate it, and desrvingly so. Punch Out!! looks absolutely fantastic, while The Conduit.. not as miuch.

Look at the top sellers of all time for all platforms.  You will find far more FPS games with larger sales than you reach a boxing game.  You will not find that many boxing games in fact that sold well (compared to FPS).  Boxing is a much smaller niche than FPS.  Maybe it will be evergreen bridge game that keeps selling, but there have been far more FPS hits than boxing hits in the course of gaming history.  I'm sorry, but I don't see what's so special about Punch Out to make it appeal to a larger audience than the Punch Out of the past.  That said, it is Nintendo, and lots of Nintendo fans are excited about it, so it will likely sell several millions.

The real question...  will The Conduit be good enough of a game to sell well...?

That's shortsighted. You speak as if all markets are homogeneous to a mythical average historical market.

The reality is that all consoles have stratified markets and the Wii in particular has peculiar characteristics. Punch Out will sell due to nostalgia factor to the core Nintendo base, and then it will keep selling in a casual fashion to the extended audience because it has a colorful, non-threatening appeal and will probably be marketed as a "different" and lighthearted boxing game.

Just look at Mario & Sonic Olympics and tell me how many Olympic games in the past have outsold almost all FPSs on the market.

The Conduit should easily outsell Punch Out. Punch Out might have higher opening numbers from the Nintendo Fanboys, but by the end of the year The Conduit will out pace it.

Punch Out will have better legs than The Conduit in the long distance, as it appeals to a much wider audience. It will probably be one of those evergreen bridge games that keep selling.

Punch-Out!! isn't really a boxing game, though. It's more of a boxing-themed puzzle game. Punch-Out!! is completely different from any other boxing-themed game in the world.

Neither game will be massive sellers, but Punch Out should win pretty easily. Punch out's lifetime will be b/t 1-2million while the Conduit will be lucky to hit 500,000 lifetime worldwide

The original Punch Out sold over 3 million copies worldwide, when the market was MUCH smaller.  Brawl on the Wii has had over 8 million in sales (it doesn't have Mike Tyson, but the way).

Considering, all this, why won't Punch Out go over 2 million?  It is set to have legs on the Wii also.

I'd like to know where vgChartz took that number from.
