Actually, my reasoning goes a bit like this: A possible reason for third parties NOT to ignore Wii, besides the obvious hardware sales domination, is because minus all the big hitting well known so called "AAA hardcore" software being absent on the platform it has still sold more third party software in 08 (The year the biggest third party games were released) Than either of its competitors. Regardless of which games sell or whichever other lame explanation that may be given, it doesn't matter the facts remain, Wii is a software monster, hell that's what it was made for.
Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:
If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.
If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Also you may notice the Wii games are lackluster in comparison to the HD games. At least in my opinion of course, perhaps some of you genuinely enjoy those games. Bear in mind which console has the largest userbase. |
I don't think there is a debate about which console has done the best job of selling 3rd party software over the console's life to date. I think there is a debate over which console currently is doing the best job of selling 3rd party software. I still fail to see how looking at the top 10 addresses either of these questions.
I might as well point out that the Wii has sold the most software in total and then just assume that it probably has sold more third party software as well.
Give up trying to convince mjc2021 guys. The guy really dislikes the wii. It's like talking to a brick wall.
"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

Not all are big games but that doesn't matter. The top 10 is filled with old games. New announcements have made much difference. And if you look at the top 10 for the HD consoles it's mainly sports and shooters and music games which isn't even all that better compared to the Wii's top 10. Instead of taking the top 10, take the total number of third party SW for each consoles. And then again the Wii would probably appear pretty impressive considering the lack of big third party titles released on it. |
Man, you have gone on the Monster Hunter badwagon. I need to go back and read what you thought of this game before.
Anyway, The problem is not the fact the wii is not selling 3rd party software, it's the fact that it's getting such reputation, and it keeps spreading aroung as the truth. The Wii got plenty of big names games, it's just that there more popular among the HD audience.
This Gen is pretty balanced, unless you have at least one HD AND the wii, you wont get the full experience like the PS2 gave us.

@OP
Didn't I slam you earlier today for an already stupid idiotic belief?
Yes, yes I did. Though still you come out and claim the stupidity on such a thought. Well of course. Your not proving total sales to anyone. Your only proving the extend how bizzar and the awkward the fanatical fanbois prove themselves to be.
This is one of the few comparable games were the same comprable care and gameplay styles. Your OP only proves the quality of core games are no where near the same. Go figure that you didn't listen to what I said.

As you can see the 360 and Wii games are tracking very similiary in pattern. This shows that the demographic market is the same style and interest. The game is selling pretty much the same. It's also obvious that 360 along the same amount of time will just be a bit ahead of the Wii. Not bad for a console that sells to casual. It also proves that there is more of a core market on the Wii than the PS3. So why are we seeing the same level of polish and games on the PS3 when the Wii proves better sales. Oh wait I'm being very selective.
Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.
I think the problem is that this genration of consoles is very wierd. in 1 corner you have the Wii, which has sold a massive number of consoles to people that have never been into video games let alone own a console. Many of these bought the console for one or two games (Wii fit, Wii sports as an example). nobody in the market knows if these people are going to buy traditional video, or even if they will ever buy another console in a future generation. Heck some people have bought Wii's because it was the thing to have, and no other reason. In the case of the HD consoles developers know the people who bought those will buy games, and buy futre consoles to continue gaming, as they are tried and true past present and future consumers for them. i could go on forever talking about the oddities of this gen, but will save that for another time.

I don't think many of them have totally forgotten how Nintendo bullied them in the 80s
