Microsoft experimented with motion control far before the Wii was even called the Revolution.

Here is a USA Today article from 2002. http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/techinnovations/2002-11-18-bonus-microsoft-xwand_x.htm

Here is a page on MS Reseach site last updated in 2004 http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/people/awilson/wand/default.htm the video on the site is even earlier.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Interesting, so it turns out Nintendo stole Microsoft's idea. Oh, how the tables have turned.

I have posted this several times before. Usually just gets ignored. Dont think Nintendo fans like to know that others are capable of ideas.

Thx, actually, Motion Controls were around even before MS, ever hear of Virtual Reality, or the NES Power Glove? As for the specific device, it says nothing about accelerometers, bluetooth, or anything that the Wii remote uses.

Considering that the Wii released in 06, that implies development to start 3 years earlier, and research 2 before that, Theoretically, the initial concepts for the Wii remote could have been found in 2002 as well. Maybe Nintendo just beat them to the finish line and got their patent out first?

BTW, the MS Research from 2004 link, it doesn't load.

Wasn't the WiiMote technology developed by a smaller company that Nintendo purchased? Or something along those lines?

It could be possible, I don't have any references of such to prove nor disprove the possibility, and as I get older, my mental hard drive gets full, so I have to erase files, thus I can't recall it from memory.

Nintendo don't own anything. They have a patent for the wiimote itself, including the infra red, motion etc, but not for the individual accelorometer by it self. They don't need it bcoz they own the idea, a remote shaped motion controller that uses motion, ifra red pointer and bluetooth connection.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

^^ That is the scariest avatar Ive ever seen
