Forums - Sales - How did the PS3 close the gap back to 8m?

Look at 2 May WW LTD sales chart: 360=30.127 million, PS3=22.136 million. Gap as at 2 may was adjusted to 7.991 million, with this week's numbers the gap is back up to 8 million.

PS3 was undertracked by 100k and X360 was overtracked by 100k. 8.2 million lead down to only 8 million. The total sales should match the March 31 shipment total figures. 360s total was around 30.2 million, Ps3 was around 22.7 million. Could VGC have undertracked PS3 by around 500k?

Why? Shipment does not equal in living rooms.

Are you MikeB in disguise???

By now it might, I would assume that most of the console that were sitting on shelves 1 1/2 months ago have been moved

Japan, and the xboxs inability to move above 10k a week there

come play minecraft @  mcg.hansrotech.com

minecraft name: hansrotec

XBL name: Goddog

Total shipment figures as of March 31 as shown in shipment reports: Wii = 50.3 million, XBox 360 = 30.2 million, PS3 = 22.7 million.

Console sales as of last week 9 May 09 on front page. Wii = 49.72, XBox 360 = 30.24, PS3 = 22.24.

Is the XBox 360 overtracked? PS3 and Wii undertracked? Shipment figures should be close to sales numbers 1 and a half months later. X360 is shown to be higher than shipments of March 31. The other two systems are 0.7 million and 0.5 million off the mark.

yeah it amazing isnt it many thought the 360 would have 10m gap by now back in Dec 08 and still think that its possible to get a 10m gap by the end of this year

i think it was a few adjustments made that kept it at its 8m gap i think the gap will shrink this holiday season

total shipments will always be higher than sold through retail to consumers... always.

Firstly, once something is discontinued they will equal them after a short while (PS1 has sold whatever Sony has shipped within a few consoles)

Secondly, what I mean is that sales in late May are likely to be quite similar to shipment totals in March

@BHR

Nobody knows how the gap will play out this year... but it is true the rest of this year will be interesting

Dont forget this time last year the gap was 5m.

E3 could have big impacts in either direction... should be a good watch.

With Japanese sales declining, I would say on the whole of it the Xbox 360 will have a better time of Q1-3 2009.

shipped/sold

Xbox 360: 30.2 million/30.24M

PS3: 22.7 million/22.24M

hmmm: Im not really sure, though one explanation is that Sony deliberately shipped more consoles to make their numbers for the financial reports.

Tease.

@ squilliam, they were 80k over their estimates, they shipped 10.08m instead of just 10. I would assume the Xbox needs more stock with 3SKUs, whereas the PS3 only really has 1 SKU at this point
