That's the thing. They were the leader and should have embraced it. But no, change is not good for them.

I always said digital downloads and file sharing would be their downfall. If they don't expand from hard formats, when Nintendo and Microsft change their tune, Sony wont be able to follow.

At least Sony is hiring forward-thinking people now:

Well you can't really blame Sony for being a little bitter.

They love their physical, disc-based media, and had a huge stake in the music industry which has taken a tumble. Movies and games get pirated. In a lot of ways I think Sony does wish that they could turn the clock back the 1990s.

To be honest, I sometimes do think the world would be better off without the internet. Mass explosion of porn (not that I'm a prude, but I do sometimes shudder at what 8 or 9 year old kids might be viewing on the internet), rise of insipid gossip sites like TMZ, spread of virus' that attack your computer, internet addiction, death of newspapers, etc. etc. etc.

They were in position to reap massive profits from the internet turning their music and movie business into an extremely profitable unit by vertically integrating all aspects of the music industry, from content creation to delivery by using a DD outlet ala iTunes Store. They screwed it themselves tho by trying to impose their propietary standards on the market using the strength of the Walkman brand and the leverage provided by their content creating units.

Don't blame the internet for Sony's own wrongdoings...

Ah, before you go ballistic know I'm quoting Stringer on that.

This is Sony Pictures , not SCE.

and im wondering why this is related to video games.

the internet was invented by the US government.

Lots of good has come from it.

Seems like the sony employee is racist

@everybody who thinks the internet is ruining the way we get information or anything to that effect,

People thought the printing press would ruin religion because now people could take Bibles home instead of going to church.

People thought the printing press would ruin the way we get information because suddenly there were thousands of books being printed, including smut and and crap and propaganda and lies.

Any new technology that changes the way we get information is scary for many people for a little while. I don't think it's a big deal.

Poor similitudes. Having to deal with 2 books per month or 10 newspapers per week is not the same for a human brain than having to deal with hundreds upon hundreds of articles, webpages, twitter and forum posts, videos, and podcasts a day.

Reality is that the signal-to-noise ratio for information has never been so low in human history. And the vantages of availability of content are being overwhelmed by the effort of filtering it for most users of the internet medium.

Result: misinformation instead of disinformation.

It's like nutrition: if you don't work out you won't turn all the calories you ingest into the correct and healthy body mass. It will only end up into obesity. We live in the era of information gluttony, and yet most people are not ready or able to metabolize what they like and crave.
