Forums - Sales - Need a Wii? Best Buy gives $20 Giftcard for Buying a Wii May 17-May 23 09'

Every Sunday for over a year I've been watching videogame advertisements at Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Kmart, Sears, Toys R US, and Game Stop (CC too when it existed).

This is the first week I can remember any of these retailers offering any kind of discount - direct or indirect as this one is - at all on Wii. For the May 17 to May 23 week at Best Buy you get a $20 gift card for buying a Wii and a $10 gift card for buying EA Active.

Its interesting to note that while Target, Best Buy, Kmart, Sears, Toys R US are advertising/pushing EA Active pretty hard for the week, Target, Kmart, Sears, Toys R US, and Gamestop are pushing Punch Out pretty hard. Toys R US is giving $10 off the purchase of another Wii game for buying Punch Out and a more general $10 gift card with the purchase of EA Active.

Gamestop is apparently also hosting in store tournaments for Punch Out May 30 for some reason.

In gamestop you turn in anything used, and you get 30% of a wii purchase

Interesting, I wonder if it's to push EA Active and the Wii in general or to clear out some excess supply.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Go buy Wiis people.

It's to get people into the stores ... they use a deal on a product they know is popular (Wii) and hope they spend on other things while at the store.

Especially in times of recession, retailers will try to do stuff like this. People are trying to save money now and Best Buy wants to get them out of that mind set and to spend, spend, spend.

Get that Wii and then maybe pick up a DVD, an extra controller, an extra game, etc. before you know it you're spending $400 because of a $20 gift card, lol.

Best Busy also gives a $10 gift card if you buy Punch Out!!, as long as you use the online coupon.
