Forums - Gaming - MS and Sony First Party Exclusive Games Comparison

Gears of War, Gears of War 2 and Mass Effect are not 1st or even 2nd party. MS doesn't even own those IPs.....

Well, the title is wrong, it is not first party games, that would mean made by internal studios, which removes Gears of War, Halo and Mass Effect from the Xbox, and technically Ratchet, Resistance and inFamous from PlayStation and LBP and a few more, but it is still an interesting list. However, still an interesting list, but moving forward, as M$ releases some its studios and decreases headcounts, the tide should turn in Sony's favour {though personally I much prefer Sony's list}

Only Gears, Gears 2 and Mass Effect need to be removed from the lists.

Keep in mind that MS was releasing games for the 360 a year before Sony started releasing games on the ps3, and that even once the ps3 was released, Sony was still heavily supporting its other two platforms, going so far as to release God of War II on the ps2.

For example, PD0 and PGR3 were hitting the 360 at a time when Shadow of the Colossus was hitting the ps2.

Now that Sony's first/second parties are more fully focused on the ps3 (well, 50/50 ps3/psp), things are beginning to pick up steam. This year and the tail end of last year are signs of that.

Also, I wouldn't consider Mass Effect to be a first party/second party title. The IP is owned fully by EA, and they can do with it what they please. MS may have locked up exclusivity for ME2 in addition to ME1, but that's no different than deals like Bioshock. Same goes for Tenchu Z and Project Sylpheed. In fact, Square published Project Sylpheed in Japan.  Tenchu was published by From Software in japan as well.

And I suppose a case could be made for Gears as well, as MS doesn't own that IP, but I'd think they would've locked up a decent bit of control over the franchise.

Sony, however, owns and has full control over every IP attributed to them on that list.

nvm

White Knight Chronicles is not a sequel of any game

Other than that seems like a good list. Except for listing Mass Effect as first party

Ok, I'm noticing a few other discrepancies. You have R&C: Quest for Booty on the Sony listed. It's merely a PSN title that was released on BD in Europe. Meanwhile, you don't have Siren: Blood Curse on the list, which was a PSN title released on BD in Japan.

Ninja Gaiden II, while going to ps3 in the form of Sigma 2, was still published by Microsoft and is therefore a 2nd party title. Ninja Gaiden Sigma off course was published by Sony and is also a 2nd party title, exclusive or not.

Also there are 5 different Singstar games >.>

So if you remove Gears 1-2 and Mass Effect you get an average of 67,52%!? OH YEAH! OH SWEET MOTHER OF GOD YES!! I feel dizzy. All this Sony 1st party is better than MS 1st pary confimation is making my world spin!

Personally I dont see what difference these technicalities on first/second party makes. Both of these CORPORATIONS were essential in bringing these games into our hands exclusively to each console. And MS is still building up their internal game studios (they only just built an Xbox HQ), Sony has had a much longer history and had a monopoly last generation in this market, so by default they would own more IP and have more 'internal' studios. And no one can say MS is failing so far in this strategy to bring arguably the best and best-selling games on the 360.

And I keep on saying, if people would look at the development team roster of Gears of War and Mass Effect, a significant portion was financed by Microsoft. None of the above games would exist without MS or Sony respectively so thats what matters.

Isnt the PSP sony as well?
