Am I going nuts? It doesn't look any smaller then a normal PS3. Am I going nuts?

Thanks to west and iceatcs for angling the image correctly, the system is almost quadratic:

So:

1. Convincing, professional chassis mold
2. Logo changed from PLAYSTATION 3 to PS3 which is logical, not proof for/against though
3. Packaging image is not shopped (though the pack itself might be custom made)
4. IBM have had the 45nm Cell in production (since mid 2008 I believe?), we all know the story about the general downsizing of PS3 components and lower power needs
5. Pink/green work stations! (same as background)
6. Sony shipped 10m PS3's in fiscal year 07 and 08 each, they are now saying 13m for 09.
7. Maintek Computer located in Suzhou, China, manufactures PS3s. They brought down the thread (Chinese) that was hosting these images with cease and desist.

PS3 will outsell 360 and Wii combined in weekly sales if this rumour is true.

You serious though? You realize nintendo could drop the wii price as soon as they need to, and still make a nice profit. Nintendo won't let this happen.

Support good third party games on wii. Buy games like house of the dead overkill, de blob, madworld, the conduit and boom blox.

Look at the last picture posted by "The Xbox Man" and you will see it looks way smaller.

@carl

hey I'll get a better comparison pic made on neo-gaf

Using that pic as reference:

Hmm, not quite as small as I thought it'd be.

If you're transposing that on top of the other pic as is, I don't think that's particularly accurate.

The DS3 is slightly smaller in the photo than on the 'slim' box.

Using the DS3 and independently using the width of the disc drive (12cm), it ends up more like this:

I'm fairly confident about those dimensions since they work out the same, like I say, if using DS3 dimensions or the drive's dimensions.

Speaking in purely a hypothetical sense, a slim PS3 with all the functionality of the current 80GB sku priced at $299.99 would consistently outsell the 360 priced at $199.99, $249.99, and $299.99 for the Arcade, Pro, and Elite models respectively in every region on a weekly basis.

The only questionable period where the 360 might manage to outsell the PS3 at those price points for a small number of weeks is during the holiday rush in Q4 where bargain pricing is at a all-time high, but even this far from assured. Furthermore, should the suggested price cut for the PS3 come during October or later, there is little hope for the 360 at it's current price to ever outsell the PS3 at $299.99 until it has a price drop of it's own.

Speaking of which, should Microsoft attempt to immediately compete with a $299.99 PS3, they would need to issue a price cut for the cheapest model of AT LEAST $50 in America and $30 in Europe and Japan ($149.99 worldwide) to possibly outsell the PS3 for any number of weeks this holiday, but by the end of December PS3 will almost definitely begin outselling it once again. In order for 360 to outsell the PS3 at $299.99 for anything more than a relatively marginal amount during a couple of weeks at the end of November and early December would be to have a price difference of $170 or more between the two consoles. The moment that Microsoft can no longer maintain that magic $170 difference between the two consoles is when I believe the PS3 will begin to consistently outsell the 360 for the rest of this generation.
