Hmm...potentially five platinum selling games in Japan this year (at least)

Ranked by "Certainty of Topping 1m"

50% +

1) Dragon Quest IX - July 19 - DS (probably 2m week one, 3m+ for the year)

2) Final Fantasy XIII - Nov/Dec - PS3 (1.4m week one?, 2m+ in 2009 if it releases before late December)

3) Wii Sports Resort - June - Wii (200k-300k week one...1-1.5m for the year on legs?)

4) Monster Hunter Tri - August 1 - Wii (300k+ week one....timing ahead of Obon suggests they want the game to be played among friends and families, but after Dragon Quest IX)

5) Pokemon DS remakes

20% +

1) Kingdom Hearts DS (250k+ week one, releases May 31)

2) Kingdom Hearts PSP (similar debut likely...release?)

3) Mario & Luigi 3

4) Wii Fit (it will pick up if Wii Sports Resort does well)

5) Monster Hunter Portable 2G PSP

6) Dragon Quest VI DS (if it releases this year)

 

Long Shots at 1m ( 0% > Game > 10% of selling 1m )

1) Wii Sports (I'd guess it will hit 25% of what Wii sells, so it can only do 1m if Nintendo has the mother of all second 1/2s)

2) Wii Play (same, but 20%)

3) Rhythm Heaven DS (Depends on the DQIX/Pokemon/Kingdom Hearts boosts)

4) Pikmin 3 (each Pikmin did 500k on GC, Animal Crossing Wii has outperformed Animal Crossing GC in Japan)

5) Gran Turismo 5 (has to release early enough)

6) Wagamama DS (20-25% attach on DS)

8) Taiko Wii (50% Attach on Wii in 2009)

9) Punch Out (original was a big hit on NES)

When i first looked at the date i thought it said 8th of Jan 09! Damn only the UK (maybe the rest of the EU but who knows) using the smallest to largest way of putting dates (in terms of day being smallest and year largest) doing it the right way lol

It would be great for Capcom if they have the game localized for the rest of the world at Chritsmas.

So Japan now has Punch Out, in June WiiSports Resort and in August Monster Hunter Tri, I guess Wii will be on top again.
