Forums - Gaming - I have never played a Final Fantasy game before. Why one should I get?

4,6,or 9 to get a grasp of what the series should be. Then all the other ones.

Well, III would be good to start with. Though personally I would recommend VI above all the others.

What he said.

Let us know your impressions after playing one or all of the games

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

Since you have a DS your options are:

FF1 and 2: Dawn of Souls (GBA)
FF3 (DS)
FF4 (GBA)
FF4 (DS)
FF5 (GBA)
FF6 (GBA)

I say 6 then 4.

6 has the greatest cast of characters, best music, and best story structure.  It's got something for everybody.  It has the best action-oriented plot.  Big things happen.  Big decisions are made.  It's awesome and epic in every way.  And loads of fun to play.  And the world is much huger and more diverse than the world in 4, so there's much more exploring to do.

4 has an amazing story that ties together every single character and the plot in an amazing package.  But it's more focused on character development than a crazy epic plot.  It's very good, but a different kind of story and game.  I think it's a super incredible game but because of that and one spoiler I can't tell you, I think it's not a good "first Final" Fantasy.  Definitely try it later though.

The first 3 will just be too hard and boring if they're your first game in the series, and I haven't played 5 yet.

I must stick for my favorite game. Me and Uematsu both agree that Final Fantasy IX has the best music.

Try FF6 it was my first Final Fantasy.

millions of replies here, but get FFX first, it will help you get into them first. Then it will also allow you to appreciate the other ones.

CURRENTLY PLAYING:  Warframe, Witcher 2

I feel like a complete outcast knowing that I hated FF6 and stopped playing it out of boredom, and everyone else in the entire world loves that game.

I have decided that this is because of two reasons:

1. I was playing through Earthbound at the same time, and Earthbound automatically ruins every other RPG game because it's so amazing

2. I had just finished playing through the Secret of Mana with my cousin and that was insanely fun to play co-op with.

We are the few, my friend.

Final Fantasy 6 if you want the best of the best.

Final Fantasy 7 if you want to see why the series is so popular.

Final Fantasy 8 if you want to see why the series is loved for it's ability to shift in a totally new direction whilst still being FF at the core (My favourite FF).

Final Fantasy 9 if you want a recap of games 1-6. I didn't like it as much (didn't think the 2D style characters translated well to 3D in ff9), but alot of fans believe this is the last great FF (because it stayed true to the original games).

Final Fantasy 10 if you want to see the last great FF game we've had.
