Forums - Microsoft - Quite surprised Xbox isn't getting many 3rd party exclusives in 2009

Well Microsoft is hoping for a huge E3 this year, right?

How about we wait for all of these Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft am d00mzord threads until after E3? Then we can also post whatever hilariously depressing videos we can get from E3. Like Nintendo from last year and Sony from a few years ago.

I know you're not really saying the 360 is doomed, but I feel like heaping it up in the same pile as all the other similar threads. I'm just in that mood, ya know?

Don't get me wrong here.

I am not crying that 360 owners don't have anything to play. Infact its the oposite. I have just finished with Outrun and will move on to Banjo and Virtual On...and thats just xbox live.

RE5, Riddick, GTA4 DLC...lots of action stuff.

But I jsut think it may be a missed opportunity for 3rd party publishers. I mean Square did SO4...but thats not xboxs main demographic. Action games is what sells best.

In my opinon, following games should have been 360 exlusives...from a business point of view.

Prototype
Chronicles of Riddick
FEAR2 (PC and 360)

For the greatest benefit to Microsoft, maybe, but to their respective publishers, no.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Check out MyAnimeList and my Game Collection. Owner of the 5 millionth post.

I think that you bring up a very good point. I'll leave it at that.

I dont think so. FEAR 2 and Riddick sales are very low so these games need to be as multiplatform as the developers would allow them. Being exclusive would make matters worse for them.

Don't see your logic on Prototype as exclusive at All.

It looks to me like Microsoft left an opportunity for 3rd party publishers to excell in early 2009 on the 360.

Look back at previous years and you will see similar patterns.

So you reason that by making those games only available on 360 all of a sudden 360 owners will flock to the stores to pick up these games? While they didn't show this behavior although the game is just as available on their platform when being a multiplatform game? I'm sorry, but that simply doesn't make sense.

I do see his logic. It would have been a direct combatant to inFAMOUS. Question is, how much did Prototype take to develop. But then again, it wouldn't have mattered, as Microsoft, had it been a 360 exclusive, would have helped fund it, and there's nothing wrong with that. I say, the more exclusives, the better

So again, in Prototype's case, I understand him. In F.E.A.R. 2's and Riddick's cases, I'm not sure. But who knows, had those two been 360 exclusives, it would have been another reason to buy a 360, which probably WOULD have helped move a great deal more copies of those games. Microsoft are the GODS of marketing!

Lets look at Riddick...

It sold 150K on 360 and 70K on ps3 thus far. If atari announced this was a 360 exclusive, the 360 sales would most likely be around 200K now...considering the people that wanted to play the game and own both consoles but bought the ps3 version instead. Also, having a game be exclusive usually gets some free MS marketing on Live...so more sales

Also there would be no cost associated to porting this to ps3. Now you can't say that wouldn't be financially advisable for Atari.
