Forums - Sony - Redesigned PS3 to be Revealed at E3

Well, if it's a redesign, that'd probably cost Sony a ton of money, which they can't really spare at the moment... I doubt they'd take that kind of risk, when it's not guaranteed to move more consoles. Also, the price of the system itself would likely be higher if it was somehow redesigned and smaller/more compact.

Actualy hardware revisions reduces the manufacturing costs, but given the PS3s architecture it has so many components it is hard to shrink all that down. Thats the reason why they anounced that they were goin to shrink the cpus to the 65nm (which saved them lots of money) and then to the 45nm (which will save them alot more and possibly drop the price)

Why does it seem like most people here are wanting a slim ps3? What the hell realistic difference does a slim Ps3 make?

Give me something awesome like BC, PIZZA!

I was going to say "PLZ", but that just looks and sounds so much cooler.

Colors. Slim is still impossible even with the 45nm revisions because the motherboard is too large and the other components will still not be small enough to fit into much smaller of a space. Has anyone seen the inside of a PS3? I have no clue how they manage to get it all in there! It's like a freaking perfectly filled screen of tetris.

That's got to be one of the best and funniest comments I have ever heard

+1

Lol, thank you.

Here is a pic for reference

I dont know, could the PS3 possibly get any cooler looking than it already does? I doubt it but we will see. If there is a slim version announced, I will be running out and getting another PS3.

Even though how much I want this to happen bec. this will help sony a lot in sales. I'll regret my PS3 purchase last feb. 8. I should have wait.

Is yours a BWC PS3?  If its the current PS3 then i can see why.

Im happy with my BWC PS3 and wanted it before they release the slimline.  They already cut back on 2 USB ports, BWC, Media card-reader.

Whats next to cut to make this slimline?

- the fan most likely

- maybe itll have the same type of disc load top the PS2 slim instead

- an unreplaceable HDD thats smaller than the 2.5" (like the ones the Ipods use?)

Those are just my thoughts.  If they add new stuff to slim thatd be nice but in math; add =/= smaller lol

Yes it is.

On the positive side you got to play PS3 games earlier? Im sure you had some good times with your PS3 right?

Won't happen just yet.

Lol @ your question. XD

Obviously, you have no answer. Therefore, I rest my case.

Obviously. :p

Question: Why does everyone assume that consoles need to be drastically redesigned? What precedence do we have for this?

... NES, PS1, PS2 - All three were the market leader and all were so they could be sold at the end of (or even beyond) their generations. Right in the middle of a generation seems a strange time to spend the R&D on something like this.

(Did I miss any?)
