Actualy hardware revisions reduces the manufacturing costs, but given the PS3s architecture it has so many components it is hard to shrink all that down. Thats the reason why they anounced that they were goin to shrink the cpus to the 65nm (which saved them lots of money) and then to the 45nm (which will save them alot more and possibly drop the price)
