Megaton does not mean surprise. Megaton means massive. And that would be massive. I mean, look at the level of hype there is for a game with no name, no information, no trailer, and nothing but a screenshot showing a pulley system, and the knowledge that it will involve close contact (like with Yorda's hands in Ico, or Agro and the Colossi in SoTC) |
I don't see how that's a megaton though. That's makes for a great show, rather than a megaton.
@ Soriku
Really? I see most saying that Versus XIII is exclusive ..... for now.

720k in NA, 200k in Japan (which is very good, actually), ??? in Others. It crossed a million, easily. Probably around 1.8 million.
I think there is a lot of ignorance in this thread. Some members need to learn the meaning of the word publisher. It is one thing for a game that is published by a third party to cross platforms. It is another thing entirely for a game published by say a manufacturer to do so. Publishers have to pay for rights, or provide services to gain those rights. In other words they have paid dues.
Now that doesn't mean that publishing rights are not renegotiable, but never expect a Microsoft or a Sony to negotiate away premiere franchises. Those are worth more then the games themselves. So this talk of Mass Effect, Gears, or Gran Tourismo are asinine. Metal Gear is a different Story Konami published their game so it can go wherever they want to take it granted that there is no contract between them, and Sony that precludes that.
I would speculate this is the year where the competitors deliver their major secret projects. Microsoft probably unveils Chronicles. Sony probably unveils a new franchise.
MGS4 will probably go to 360, but by the time it comes out it'll be at least 1.5 years old. That's hardly a megaton.
If it happens, hopefully they'll patch the ps3 version with Trophies.
| wfz said: Halo 4! Yeaaaaahhhh! For Sony, the obvious, correct, and only right answer is Team ICO's new project. |
Anything expected can't be a megaton. That excludes Team ICO's game, which we all know is going to be there. :P
These games are going to be stolen exclusives, new exclusive games from huge studios, or new entries in very, very popular series'.
It's not something we absolutely expect to be shown, and that has already been announced. I know that's what fans hope, that we consider they games they are huge fans of to be megatons everytime they are mentioned, but "megaton" is new, shocking news that actually changes thing. SotC2 isn't it. Saw a screen of that a year ago, didn't we?
I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.
NO NO, NO NO NO.

I'm gonna copy and paste my response to that statement, from another thread, instead of doing a link. Sorry for the repitition.
I disagree. While I feel that lately many PS3 fanboys have been trying to downplay the possibility of losing this exclusive, it is still the best reason to own a PS3, and Sony losing it should not be taken lightly.
It wouldn't be a huge announcement in a purely fiscal sense. Neither was the FFXIII thing.
However, in the minds of people who haven't yet chosen a PS3 or 360, the MGS4 announcement for the 360 would be very influential, I would imagine.
There is also the epic ownage to consider, of most PS3 fanboys. They have said for a long time, that the game was impossible on the 360, and that indeed the game would factually never come to the console. Just proving those absolutes wrong would be well worth my time at the conference.
Reasoning it out, I don't think there could be a bigger predictable anouncement from Microsoft, than the acquisition of the PS3's biggest exclusive. For predetermined fans and current gen console owners, it means nothing(unless they are 360 fans, in which case, the news is huge). PS3 fans already have many traps set up over the past few months they set in order to marginalize the news("I played it a year ago" "MS paid for this!?" ect.) However, despite that, it is still the loss of the best current exclusive title on the Playstation 3, to multiplat status, and a major talking point for the console completely gone. Future console purchasers(the only ones that matter in the userbase war, no?) are influenced by this announcement.
How is that not a megaton, you tell me?
I mean, imagine the shitstorm if Gears 1 and 2 came out this December on a single BR, for the PS3. Same thing. It just wouldn't be as expected.
All that said, if we can admit that we do now "expect" MGS4 multiplat to be announced for the 360, then no, it won't be a megaton. However, if, as most of you do, you insist that MGS4 will remain a PS3 exclusive, then its megaton status is still in question. You can't have it both ways.
Even if it isn't a megaton, it's a huge announcment on the console war front. Denying that is denying reality, I'm sure you'd agree.

It would be a megaton if it were an exclusive. A multiplat announcment, would be big news, but not a megaton.
