"every week I can't help but come across someone's ill-informed topic about how Blu-ray is doing soooooo bad compared to DVD"

really? i havent seen a thread on that in a while

The only reason I have Blu-ray right now is because I bought a PS3 to get it as a game system. And of the Blu-ray discs I have I only bought one outright, the rest I have from my mail-in rebate getting the system. I just find it hard to justify $25 to $35 for a movie. When they get closer to DVD prices it will be a big help for the format.

99.9% of the worlds population do not own a tv. Your analogy is false.

Worldwide, no.  In the US, yeah, 99.9$% of people do own a TV.  And let's be honest, when it comes to "mainstream" techonology no one counts nearly as much as the US.  Not even remotely.

I think Blu Ray has quite a good shot at the moment, a lot of consumers showed an interest in purchasing in a recent survey I read about *somewhere*. I think Tim knows though, you just have to ask him.

Tease.

....Of course Blu Ray is doing fine, PS3 still exists.

I thought Tim said he didn't like Blu Ray.

Blu Ray isn't doing very well at all in the UK (not sure about other places in the world), a lot of stores have started reducing the blu ray selling areas and increasing the dvd selling space again, some stores no longer sell bluray films here and some are heading that way too,

You can get decent blu ray players in the UK from £99.99p but noone seems to want them, the only way they get sold is when they are given away with new tv's etc,

RIP Bluray.....

blu rays main problem is price, also blu ray is more evolutionary than revolutionary.. since DVD brought with it double the picture quality of standard VHS, extra features, 5.1 Dolby/DTS and also memory was VERY very expensive back then(1997). Since compression technology, the internet and memory prices are lower-digital has a greater chance of catching a significant portion of the HD pie. I think blu ray is cool but its also very very overpriced. I mean the PS3 is gonna hit its 3rd birthday later this year but disc prices have remained rather stagnant.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.
