A lobby system of some sort might help in this case, but that would be impossible.

Sure, it's fun to get everyone to the max level (I didn't say anything about this by the way), but do you really have to prove to everyone that you did it? I'm just speculating here, I didn't assume anything. I thought it was obvious that there's a limit of having fun "owning" easy targets, especially when you can't upgrade your characters after getting them to the max level. There's no point anymore, unless, like I said, you're a sadist! That's why I should add that online for a RPG is pretty silly. It sounds weird in my ears to hear someone say "w00t, I owned your guys with my overpowered guys. Take that, noob!" I mean, yeah, really? Wait until I get there I say! Tsssk... Human beings and their will to compete against each other! =P |
Like I said before, online needs to be equalized.
Honestly, my first thought on Fire Emblem online would be 2-4 players being given pre-set teams and being placed on various sides of a map with fog'o'war. Pre-set units, pre-set weapons, etc. Instead of playing "My unit is more powerful than yours," you play actual Fire Emblem against the other person by using positioning, terrain, and favorable match-ups to win.
Hmm well, that's good to hear, I haven't completed the single player stuff yet, but I'll be sure to avoid any online business, then. :p

I must say SCHMUP, it sounds like you just don't like getting owned. If there guys are all level 20, its because throughout the game they played better. Simple as that. They have more skill. If you play intelligently, your guys will level up more than if your a first time player running through the game. You can also save all the powerful weapons without using them...

Even better would be choosing sides, "hero or villain." Fire Emblem is meant to be played by one side with fewer units that are more powerful, against another with somewhat weaker but more numerous units that have advantageous positioning. One plays the role of hero, with mighty warriors having to fight through the adverse conditions, while another plays the villain, trying to wear down the noble hero with numbers and with dick moves

Firstly, it's SHMUP. Secondly, I never tried Fire Emblem online. Thirdly, I don't know how the process of the end-game looks like. Can you keep all your stats on your characters in the next game (kind of like a new game+)? If the answer is yes, no, it doesn't require skills at all. How do you know they didn't play the game twice (or more) in order to get all their guys to level 20?
@ WoW: Yeah, that sounds like a plan I could agree with! =P
Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...
