Get a DSi xD
I'd go PS3 from the media angle. It's also going to work out cheaper over time if you want to slap large HDD in there and also play online with friends abroad. You don't have Live costs and you can plug in a decent, cheap HDD.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Some other choices for OS X software to get my MacBook to talk to the PS3 (thanks!) 2. Something I didn't consider (that thankfully people in this thread pointed out to me) is that many PS3 games are multi-lingual. So it means that it's possible that I don't need to import every single game I buy. Some of the games here in Taiwan will work in English. A few things I'd like to clear up: 1. A USA/Canada PS3 is not so good for me, because then if I want to watch Blu-Ray discs, I need to buy Region 1. All the Blu-Ray discs here are either Region 3 (for Taiwan) or Region 2 (imports from Japan). I'm not sure if the PS3s sold here are actual Taiwanese releases or Japanese imports (seems like most video games sold here are imports from Japan) but either way, a Region 1 PS3 is not as good to me as a PS3 purchased locally in Taiwan. 2. Taiwan has the same electric outlets as Japan, which are pretty close to North America.. but in any case it doesn't matter.. I live in Taiwan and I'm purchasing a Taiwanese PS3, so of course the AC will match. Anyway, thanks for the replies, you've made me feel confident about my purchase. Now it's 12:43PM in Taipei, and I'll be purchasing a PS3 tonight! Now I just have to decide on the color... I think silver is best! |
Not sure if someone already gave this answer but i'm pretty sure the ps3 allows you to change your region a few times, so i believe it wouldn't matter where you bought it. This is from memory, someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Good luck with your purchase.
PS3 - better for downloaded movies (more support)
- no region locking for games so no need to mod
- Blu-ray
- since no mod chip required no problems with multiplayer with modded xbox you can't play multiplayer

| Hephaestos said: dude if you can afford a PS3, you have no excuse whatsoever to mod a console... I buy in the UK and you can get (on a public site as amazon) a 360 with 6-7 decently recent games for the price of a PS3... that is more than most gamers have. And I'm sure games are cheaper in Taiwan while the PS3 probably isn't... I don't care that you pirate things... but I do care that you talk about it as if it's normal to do so. |
I agree. But games arent priced the same worldwide. In some countries they cost over $80, which is ridiculous.
Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

5 THINGS I'd like to see before i knock out:
a. a AAA 3D sonic title
b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"
c. redesgined PS controller
d. SEGA back in the console business
e. M$ out of the OS business
For media playback and most of the games you want a PS3 would come recommended, for games piracy a PC, a 360 for Pacman (or get Deluxe Pocmon for the PC).
Depends what matters more to you.

Wrong! you can play online perfectly fine with a modded 360, (read my post at the top of this page),
And you don't "chip" the 360 you flash the dvd drive, very different......
I would give the edge to the PS3 for media capabilities and the 360 for actual gaming so depends on what your going to mainly do with it, but remember the 360 acts as a "media extender" so will only stream music, video, pictures from your pc, it won't actually store the content on it's hard drive, so although the 360 has some superb media features I would still give the media side of things to the ps3 as you can actually store content on its hard drive, I only use my 360 for streaming so don't need to use any of the ps3's media functions,
For gaming the 360 wins easily, better exclusives, better and much larger choice of games, xbox live (costs £2.70 a month if you shop around for a good deal), more split screen and co-op games, better pricing (in the uk retail 360 games are £5-£10 cheaper than ps3 games), better warranty on the 360 should anything go wrong, list goes on and on and on,
Yup, you can play online with a modded 360.. that is, until MS bans your console ;)
