So a game that is primarily targetted at a market which consists of people who don't read game reviews and don't visit game sites, is fairly judged by people who read and write reviews and people who not only visit game sites, but take the effort to go out of their way to contribute?

So? Your point is ?

We on this forum are as hardcore gamers as you can get to the point of talking of our hobby and having huge disputes about it. Those reviews clearly show that for audience like ours this is shovelware.

Sense. the above post makes none.

1. Shovelware is not a subjective term for "stuff that I don't like", it means low production values. Wii Music is definitelly not shovelware, because shovelware is not determined by the style, or the audience.  Shovelware is when small companies  are releasing extremelly cheap casual games hoping to sell a few thousand units, and earn profit.

With your logic, we could say that "GTA IV is shovelware for the Wii audience", or that "I personally find Bioshock shovelware"

2. You suggest that "we, the hardcore"  must have the very same tastes, and if these 43 Mighty Nerds deemed it bad, it is scientifically proven that no one on gaming sites can love Wii Music, and we are not entitled to OUR OWN OPINION!

Everybody is entitled to their opinion. And I do not doubt that the reviewers stated their opinion. But you should give any game the same treatment as you do the others. That's all.

I think that is what reviewers did. They did not give the game extra points for being different. They just did not like it and gave low scores as they would have given any game they did not like.

Did you even read what I said? I did not fault individual persons for saying what they thought of the game, I faulted the companies and the system for not giving Wii Music the chance that other games get. Don't just repeat what I say without looking at my main argument.

Weird. I thought you said that reviewers should give any game the same treatment as the others. Before that, you said that reviewers should try to understand wii music. Do you think they would do that on other games they don't like?

im glad its selling a bit

it has a hell of a lot more to do with MUSIC and the CREATIVE PROCESS involved in music than say rock band or guitar hero, both of which have nothing to do with playing or making music at all.

such a waste of time those games, people should just buy a guitar and put the same time in to it. theyd get more results

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

Wii Music did recieve some really bad reviews. Not bad as in low scores, but bad as in people not trying to understand the game, or people that simply disliked that type of game. You do not put a reviewer that hates soccer more than anything to review a soccer game. But you can put a reviewer that hates casual games and absolutely need highscores to enjoy playing on reviewing Wii Music. And that part is not good.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion. And I do not doubt that the reviewers stated their opinion. But you should give any game the same treatment as you do the others. That's all.

There's a difference. Some reviewers would love football, some would think it's alright, some would hate it. It's a pretty even three way split, although obviously Europeans seem to prefer football, while Americans aren't great fans of "soccer". That's why IGN UK's football game scores are always higher than those of IGN US (IGN US gave Football Manager 2009 a 2.3 (or something like that), IGN UK gave it 9.1). That was a bad review, because that guy hated football, and the majority of gamers don't.

Wii Music is different. Generally, people who work for large reviewers are "hardcore" gamers. They would have no interest in Wii Music. I don't think IGN or GameSpot have a single staff member who would consider Wii Music anything better than mediocre, with a fair number thinking it's complete trash. But the enormous majority of their readers are from this same demographic. So they are just being loyal to their audience.

I hold the opposite opinion to most people. I actually disrespect 1UP for their Wii Music review (in case you don't know, it was an A-, or 90-93%). A- is the same score they gave to MGS4.

MGS4 is widely regarded as one of the best games of this gaming generation, and particularly one of the best on PS3. Its sales reflect that, it is close to 4 million sold. It topped a million first week, and pushed PS3 hardware sales above those of the Wii on its launch week. It was a truly excellent game.

For that masterpiece to receive the same score as (I'm going to be frank here. From what I've seen:) an attempt by Nintendo to make pots of money by releasing a game with very little effort put into it. Now, that's a pretty shallow opinion of the game, I haven't even played it. But in my eyes, and the eyes of the majority of people who would actually read 1UP, GameSpot and IGN, that is true. Whether it is targeted at the "hardcore" or not isn't really relevant. Because IGN and 1UP are.

The only concession I could think of would be to do like Famitsu does, and have a "casual" reviewer. Of course, then they hate excellent games for being too hard (Demon's Souls), and the average goes down. Perhaps only for games targeted at them? What IGN does occasionally, "Another Take", is good. A different reviewer gives a three paragraph summary of what they think of a game. Put a score on the end of that, have a hardcore reviewer write it, and stick it on the end (or the beginning) of the 1UP review, and I would have no problem.

On another note, this game has outsold God of War II, and that makes me a sad panda

1) All have 90+ on Metacritic, none involve violence or killing in any significant way.

2) What people seemingly can't accept is the possibility that this isn't actually a good game, or that the reviewers didn't like it. It's their opinion.

1) I was being sarcastic and was assuming that was fairly obvious. Of course there are numerous non-violent games that get good scores.

2) That's why I said it was a generic rant. Wii Music could be rubbish, I don't know, but this isn't the first game that people have had very similar complaints about on this site and many of the other games are quite polished from my experiences with them and most of the hate seems to be directed towards them purely for being "casual" or not aimed at males between 15-25 (i.e. the majority of people on this site).

These sites are perfectly welcome to their opinions, but one has to remember that their primary market isn't the people who are casual gamers, so using them as definitive proof as a game being terrible, especially when they don't represent the people who are actually interested in/buying the games, is plain wrong.

I thought a lot of people play games for fun. But I guess that is wasting your time.

A lot of people saw this game on demonstration at last year's E3 2008. Most of us saw it in action and were like what the hell is this game? There seem absolutely no point to the game. Just pressing buttons to make noises. Ok it may interest some young children but is this a game with any substance? Wii Music appeared to have no challenge to it at all. So it is totally understandable the reviewers gave it mediocre reviews. The Wii Music game that I saw on display during Nintendos presentation looked like it would not hold my attention for more than 5 minutes.

And drumming is just hitting drums to make noise. Playing piano is just pressing keys to make noise. Playing the trumpet is just pressing buttons to make noise. Playing guitar is just pinching cords to make noise.
