Uncharted. I only bought it because I was really hankering for something and hadn't considerred it at all. Probably bought it a few months late, and it is such an awesome game.

I forgot the NOT in the thread title

Buoshock, I didn't buy it as soon as it was released but when I did buy it I couldn't play anything else. I actually started playing through the story again.

For me it'd be Portal. I waited several months before I picked up the Orange Box, and regretted the delay by the 3rd or 4th test chamber.

Dead Space - I didn't intend to play this game at all. I don't like horror games. A friend of mine borrow me a copy one day and what can I say  - game is really decent. I end up with platinum trophy. Shame it didn't sell better.

Tales of Vesperia. I just bought it a week ago and I absolutely love it. I bought it on a complete whim!

Best whim I've ever had.

The topic begins to make much more sense. It also changes my answer from "Fallout 3" (it's awesome, but it also went on sale for 50% the next day...) to Batallion Wars 2 (if I limit myself to recent games only).

Seriously, I recommend Batallion Wars 2 to all Wii owners, especially since it's dirt-cheap.

Paper Mario: the Thousand Year Door

I bought it a few years ago for ridiculously cheap when Best Buy sold off all their Gamecube games and then it sat on my shelf in its original plastic wrap up until a month or so ago.

I finally started playing it and it's easily one of the best games I've ever played.

Call of Duty 4. I purchased it in January of this year, two months after purchasing COD:World at War. It's quite possibly my favorite game this generation.
