Forums - Nintendo - 1UP- Boogie Bombed, NPD says 68,000 sold in all of August

I don't understand? Mario Party 8 got nearly as bad reviews (64% average to 60.5% average), but has sold 20x since launch.

So should we say that EA should take note: Crappy non-Nintendo games don't sell, but as soon as "Mario" or "Nintendo" appear on an otherwise horrid title, they sell like ice cream at a Jenny Craigs event?

Have you ever played a Mario Party with three friends?

Currently Playing: Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC), Dragon Quest IV (DS)

Last Game beaten: The Rub Rabbits(DS)

And now they will try to reduce the looses with the PSP/DS version ... what a lame game :P

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Games like this are proof of what underdone third party games will achieve. Just because a game is a pauldry attempt at Blue Ocean philosophy doesn't make it Blue Water, it just makes it green... sometimes yellow.

Except most of Mario Party's reviews attributed their low scores to the games lack of progress in the Mario Party series. And unlike reviewers who have to, most gamers haven't played Mario Party 1 through 7, so that complaint isn't really an issue.

Also, why does everyone act like Until the Wii, Mario Party was a crappy game that no one ever bought?

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I bet if the game had a fat plumber it would be over 500k now.

Nice trolling mate :P

...

MP8 >>>>> Boogie (except that I haven't played Boogie).

MP8 has *plenty* of depth. Different modes. Multiplayer. Mini-games (heaps of them). Party mode. Single player mode. Im sure we have put 20-30hrs into MP8 - and have still not unlocked everything yet (no idea how to unlock the last board :P).

From what I gather, Boogie has a few hours of single player mode - and more of the same with multiple players.

Or as an analogy:

 - MP8 is doing a world tour, with a pretty boring tour presenter. If the other people in the bus are interesting, you'll have a really good time - and either way, you get to see heaps of interesting things along the way.

 - Boogie is like heading out for a night on the town (to a club that plays music you probably don't love). Get drunk with some friends, and you'll have a good time. End up sober by yourself, and it will be a miserable night. Either way, its over by the morning - and then you wake up with a headache ;)

...

BTW - MP8 is on track *easily* become the best selling Mario Party title to date. That says something to Nintendo.

Eh. While Mario Party 8 may not have deserved the sales it got (especially after they released, what, 4 Mario Party games for the GC?), but that doesn't mean that this game didn't get what it deserved. I also rather dislike EA as a publisher, mostly because of the ridiculousness that is Madden sales, given that they do tiny updates from year to year.

Mario Party gets dinged for a bunch of little flaws in an otherwise good product. Boogie, from what I've heard, has fundamentally weak gameplay. Hudson should really get around to addressing more of the little Mario Party flaws, but the games aren't bad, they're just stale.

Of course Mario does help a less-interesting product sell better, that's the benefit of the years Nintendo has spent building the IP. Edit: Electronic Arts could have easily inserted the Simpsons or Harry Potter (ha) into Boogie for the same effect.

The MP games are mostly a bore to me. My two biggest complaints are that in many of the games you rely on chance so much, and the other being how slow-paced the whole affair is. It sucks sitting around watching everyone's characters move about, then getting some lame chance-based game after the wait. I'd enjoy the games much more if the overall process was sped up and the mini-games relied soley on skill.

I don't want the MP games to bomb, I'd just rather they didn't outsell killer games like Paper Mario, Metroid, and Resident Evil. I guess it's like watching people fawn over fluff like the Fast and the Furious movies. You understand why crap outsells gold, it just doesn't make it any easier to swallow.

well it sold more than Blue Dragon in August. Thats good right?
