Forums - Sony - Sony bags Ghostbusters timed-exclusive

I'm still confused, can someone tell me if it's a timed exclusive or not? Some people are like "exclusive in NA and timed exclusive in PAL." Makes me confused :

If I understand correctly, Sony is now the game's publisher in the PAL regions. Presumably as compensation, Atari will be pushing back the 360/Wii versions in the PAL regions until later in the year. North America is not affected.

So Sony Moneyhatted?

In a way, but they are publishing it themselves.

There was still almost certainly a tit-for-tat though, since Atari is pushing back the non-Sony platform versions. Considering how closely related those are to the PS2/3 versions, and that Atari is moving forward in N.A., it appears that Sony of Europe is coughing something up.

What I can't figure out is what, or why.

sony is really stepping their MONEYHATTING efforts up.....i guess they do have money left after bribing WARNER BROS 500 million to go blu-ray exclusive!!

It most definitely is a tit-for-tat, but most moneyhats don't include that company publishing it. Just the odd delay of every other version.

I still fail to see how this will benefit Sony or benefit PS3 fans.

It give Sony the opportunity to release the game and the movie together on 1 blu-ray. I think it will be pretty cool because if it sells for the price of just the game, and it comes with the movies. I'll buy this first day (and I even have the ghostbusters movies on regular DVD). I think it's a really cool idea.

I think they could have the movie and a game deal exclusive to PS3 without delaying the Wii, 360, PC, and DS versions, which won't come with the movie.  I don't see how delaying the competition helps Sony or PS3 fans.  If anything, it will just hurt sales of the game, which will cost Sony money (they own the Ghostbusters franchise and will profit from all versions).

I think it's because Sony owns the rights to Ghostbusters specifically. Well, they own Columbia Pictures. So they want them to arrive at the same time. They took over publishing rights to ensure they will be out the same day. I understand why they did it because it would suck having the game set to release with the movie and the game being delayed. Sony aren't pushing the release dates back for the other Ghostbuster games, I think Atari is in full control of when those are released. Or that's the way I'm understanding it.

But what does Atari gain from delaying the rest of the versions?  They didn't just come up with that idea on their own at the same time Sony decided to publish the PS2/PS3/PSP versions.  That was part of the deal.  And it's only happening in PAL versions.

Delaying the European PAL non-Sony versions was Sony's idea.  And I have no idea how it helps them or anybody.

Last time I checked a PSP version wasn't even being made, I hope this means that NA will get the PSP version too?

In all fairness, Toshiba's hands weren't exactly clean on that front either. The tow sides slung a few billion around to various movie studios, and Sony won. Time to move on.

It looks like M$ isnt the only one Moneyhatting ;)

Long Live SHIO!

I remember something like this happening with Prince of Persia and Beyond Good and Evil last gen... Didn't Sony nab timed exclusivity for them? And BG+E flopped as a result?
My memory's not very good on this. Anyone know what I'm talking about? >_

I really don't think this was the reason why it flopped.

Well no, but was it a contributing factor? Like I said, I don't remember it properly.
