Forums - Gaming - Multiplatform casual games sell more on HD than Wii

Didn't you get the memo? You seem to be using last generation's definition of "casual". The "hardcore" gamers got together at the start of this generation and changed it. "Casual" now means mini-game compilation...or was it games with simple controls...or was it cartoony games...or was it games with low difficulty? I can't remember. They keep changing the definition to fit their current argument.

I got the memo but I decided to define what I meant when using the word casual in my first line.

Majin: I had a list of 15 at the start. I was unsure how the bundle argument goes so I kept them in reserve.

Lets not forget that the Wii also has a much larger userbase than the 360.

So you knew they were bundled too? That's pretty lame. Anyway, I'm gonna keep following this thread and I might post more if I have any willpower left. We'll see.

As Majin has said, bundles like that don't count (at least comparing game to game.... they should for the most part count towards total software)

Let's look at the games in question:

Marvel Ultimate Alliance:
(give me a minute on this I can only find the Wii version)

As you can see, the X360 versions were trending below the Wii until they were bundled..... Bundles can make a big differene to the sales of the specific bundled game... Wii Sports is an odd one because it is helping the system as much as the system helps it.... but if it were not bundled then at best it would only be around where Wii Fit is at the moment, perhaps a bit higher but not much.

Here is Marvel: Ultimate Alliance

Great post by the way.

Great post by the way.

Several of those games (Panda, Lego, Marvel) look like the combined HD sales are beating the Wii's sales before the large leap from bundled sales.

The argument that a large chunk of sales from bundles is fair, but the OP's position is still pretty solid.

- Maybe those games should come with an asterisk and the statement 'bundled games'. That's right, maybe in fact all these customers didn't want the bundled game at all.
- If I follow your statement, the 360 is more casual than the Wii then ? So what was all this threads about the Wii being a familial, casual, kiddy platform ? Liez !

I was typing in Marvel Ultimate Alliance, without the colon, which is why I missed it.... but I have edited it into my earlier post.

U should know this by now, you have been here long enough to know that you can´t use the bundled excuse unless it´s against the Wii or Nintendo.

Bundled should be counted towards sales, but it is unfair to put a game that has been bundled on one console against it's unbundled counterpart. That's the problem here.

You should take a look at this graph. /Twroo already posted it/ Before the bundle, Kung Fu Panda had sold less than 300 000 units. Since the Wii version didn't have this advantage, the comparison is skewed. That's all.

I knew Panda was bundled at some point and I think I saw Marvel and Panda bundled for an extra £20 (might not have been Marvel) but definitely 2 games for an extra £20 (UK).

So are bundles always the same around the world? Should we have a little star next to them to identify them as bundled at some point? Do we ignore it in the million seller count?

Personally, I'm of the opinion that it makes no difference whether something is bundled or not. A sale is a sale.

Awesome post. Really. The previous long one with the graphs, that is.
