I think one line in every post when you have 50 or 100 posts per page is a lot of space.  Also, in many forums it's actually 2 lines.  A blank separating one comes before the edit line.

Then you really should stop overquoting ;)

Don't look at me.  I'm not one of the people regularly making 5 quote deep posts.

I don't really see the need for it, I usually put edit in the post if I add something new. If I am just fixing spelling or grammar I don't.....

Edit statements are a waste of time.

I generally edit a post several times after posting. All they would do is just make my posts take up more space.

You must not have read everything I said..unless you think 1 extra line is too much, then I don't even know how to argue with someone who has that mindset...

In that case, I say we link edits to VGC $.  Each edit costs you $5.  Maybe people will read their posts before posting it and stop making unfinished posts that need to be edited 'several times' to be right.  If theres 50 or 100 posts in a thread, and all 50-100 are edited posts, the thread should be closed because something went seriously wrong in it.  Seriously, world-might-end-tomorrow wrong.

I don't see what the big issue with proofreading your post is before you post it.  If you have an issue with the edited line being there, then maybe you'll start to re-read what you have to say before you say it.  If theres really that much editing going on, then at the very least we can use this feature to see how ADHD our crowd really is.  I know I have my moments..

Horrible idea, paying for edits. I always proofread my posts before posting. I seldom edit them, but there ARE times when editing is a useful tool. Recurring threads would cost a fortune, and it would be next to impossible to embedd properly.

I'm not sure why you would say this.  I make grammar errors all the time or I realize that I phrased something poorly.  As a result I edit my post for clarity.  I wish more people would take the time to reread their posts and fix mistakes after they've posted.  I think the forums would be better for it.

Charging people vg$ to fix their mistakes seems counterintuitive.  If you want a forum full of posts with spelling and grammar errors because no one wanted to pay the vg$ to edit those mistakes then feel free to push for that.  I don't think it would help vgChartz.

In the end, it's a matter of benefit.  What benefit does seeing the edit line give you?  "So&so editted her post 3 times" means exactly what to you... or anyone for that matter?  I can think of actual things which could improve vgChartz like categories for "Reporting a post" to help moderators quickly address circumstances.  A mark on posts which have resulted in the user getting a warning or ban to serve as a warning to other users of what not to do.  The ability to search a specific user's posts and only those posts.  A photo gallery which does not return an error upon uploading an image.

There are plenty of more useful things that can be improved or added in vgChartz's next version.

@killergran

True that, I didn't really think of it that way..but WoW makes it seem like everyone edits every post 10 times. It can't be that bad.

Also, most people who edit for embeds and such do it immediately after the post is made. The majority of forums who use the 'edited' line don't consider a post 'edited' until after it's been up for at least a minute or so, so that shouldn't even really be an issue, because it wouldn't go against them unless they waited too long. In which case, they should lose money=P

@WoW

True, but what good really is VGC $? I'm not hording as much as I can..I can honestly say I don't care if after posting on this site for 10 years if I'm not on the top 10. The only thing the moneys good for is the IM service, which is only $250 when you start out with $1000, and the prediction league. I don't see people being all uppity about editing a post over $5 that means absolutely nothing to most of them.

And I agree, there's a lot that can be done to improve the site. Also, for all we know, every issue we have could be accounted for in VGC 2.0 (although I doubt it, as much as I think it'll be an improvement, nothings perfect).

There's a few circumstances where editing posts or knowing one is edited can help, otherwise it wouldn't be a feature on almost every other forum out there. On top of which, it was just a suggestion. I'm not begging for it, all I'm getting at is this is the first forum I've ever been to where that tag isn't added. Granted, I haven't (obviously) been on every forum on the internet, but I've been to a lot.

Oh well, I guess the general consensus is people don't care for it much..I just know I'd appreciate it, and that's why I thought I'd bring it up.

I usually PM Talonman when I think of something that would benefit the website.  Hopefully he's saving those ideas and planning to implement a few on the next version.

I guess I could do that. I just figure a thread like this is a good way to gauge how many people think the feature would help. And if you go by the responses in this thread, no one else really cares for it at all. So TalonMan, if he reads this, will now know it's not really worth doing, since the support is in the minority.
