I really don't know anything about economics, but I do pose a question. What good is it if we just let corporate greed run its course and carry on like business as usual by leaving the tax loopholes as it is? In the end, isn't letting the rich get richer and the poor get poorer a way of eliminating competition in its own ways?

The use of the bolded catch phrases prove the claim of the italicized words.

Anyway... Obama's words arent exactly wise. But they make his base happy... and what politician worth his existence would care about things like liberty and the constitution when they could make their base happy?

The man has only been in office for about 3 months. Wait until at least the end of the year to make a statement like this.

This.

"If financial institutions won't cooperate with us, we will assume that they are sheltering money in tax havens and act accordingly"

When is this ever OK to say? first year? first term?

I will give you a hint....

Never. It's never ok.

Come to see how it works in Europe and stop complaining...

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

Plus, it just might not be a wise move (I don’t know).

For example, if you have two companies, one American, and one… say… French. If you make the cost of doing business go up for the American company, more people might buy their goods from the French company, thus lowering the number of jobs in the US anyway, as sales go down.

In the end, this might lower the total taxes you collect (or greatly reduce the effective gain).

Again, I don’t know the numbers, but hopefully someone in the Finance Committee with more sense than Obama does. Congress has to approve these tax changes.

I'm going to start playing nice in political threads now, that week away has made me see that I have been a complete jackass and I sincerely apologise to you all.

Anyway, the source for the thread is FOX, which I'm sure everyone will agree is ever so slightly biased lol.

But I think that his first 100 days have been successful considering he has effectively had to clean up the mess Bush left. I know republicans are not in favour of his spending and his socialist opinions, but he has done a good job. He has done it to the best of his abilities and has always had the American public and to an extent the world in mind with his decisions.

I think his first 100 days have been shaky, but he has made some very admirable decisions.

This biz plan will do more to hurt the people it is trying to help. We have a 35% corp biz tax here in the US so multinationals will be fed up when they have to report more of their offshore investments to a nation that did not have their best interests at heart in the 1st place. What's more is that we continue to penalize productivity in a time when we, as a nation, should be encouraging entrepreneurship to work our way out of this recession.

Lol, I have been burned. I admit, as much as I pride myself in being a Renaissance man, the economy is my weak point. I don't know what is the best road to fix the economy's problem.

I do know, however, that we have been through this before. We had passed laws to prevent such a case as well, and never had a problem like this until present day. It is because we decided to repeal the laws, since the Clinton years, due to arrogance and greed, that has cause this depression. Taking out the Glass-Steagall Act was one of the mistakes we made...thinking we know better now compared to back than accounts for our arrogance, while performing the act accounts for our greed. Of course, like I said before, I'm a neophyte when it comes to economics.

Explanation of sig:

I am a Pakistani.....my name is Dan....how hard is that? (Don't ask about the 101...apparantely there are more of me out there....)

Interestingly too he was talking about laws to make it so that there is more incentives to keep buisnesses in the US and jobs here.

Which... to me only sounds like tax "Tariffs".

Should be interesting to see how people react to it.

Protectionism is widely feared though the international community.

But Obama did run a bit on a protectionist angle.

This plan is not intended to generate jobs or improve American corporate competitiveness, it is a ploy intended to generate more revenue. Interestingly, some Congressional Democrats have reacted coolly to the proposals.

Would it be perhaps democrats in states that would be losing jobs as more firms go overseas?
