Well, as I stated many times before the PS3 will finish 2nd IMHO. It will not pass 360 in 2008, but it will eventually. The reason is solely due to Japan being much more in PS3's favor, especially after games like FF13 drop. Then, unlike right now, PS3 will eventually gain Others, this will be enough to put PS3 in a comfortable 2nd place.

EDIT: I read the first few posts and removed my beginning paragraph.

Not that I disagree with what you're saying, but the Gamecube sold far better in Japan than the XBox did and the XBox still sold more units worldwide than the Gamecube did ...

In my opinion, what will determine whether the PS3 can move into second place will be how third party developers are treating the PS3 in the second half of 2008. If the PS3 can maintain a steady stream of high quality exclusive third party games in 2008 and 2009 the PS3 may start to gain on the XBox 360 at a rapid rate and pass it by 2011. On the other hand, if the PS3 ends up sharing most third party games with the XBox 360, the 360 will retain its lead outside of Japan and the PS3 will not get close to catching it. In the worst case scenerio, if third parties begin to abandon the PS3 in favour of the Wii or the XBox 360 sales will drop off for the PS3 because people will not be motivated to buy a $300/$400 console with no games ...

I think the real question is this:

Why on Earth are so many of you loyal to a faceless corporation that only cares about your money?

Sheesh... All three console manufacturers have very sordid histories and "cheering" for them because of brand loyalty is downright foolish.

Buy the console that has the games you want to play, no matter what inane logo resides on the front of it. End of story.

Word.

 Except I'd add gaming philosophies to that, which can actually be company-specific.  It's why I've always had a soft spot for Nintendo - they, at times only hypothetically but often not, are interested in bringing me innovative gaming.  But if the system that has the most games I want to play and is at the right price point is the PS3 or the 360 or the Atari Wedon'tsuckanymore, it's the system that I'll buy.

 I think the fanboyism and brand loyalty is spawned from the same part of the human psyche as loyalty to professional sports teams.  Which, when you actually think about it, is a ridiculous concept.  But - it's fun.

The reason I like Nintendo is because they consistently bring great games to the table.  My favorite franchises -- Metroid, Mario, Zelda -- always deliver, and deliver big, with the exception of Mario on the 'cube.

Zelda: Twilight Princess is definitely one of the best game I've ever played and I will likely play through it again yet this year if I get an opportunity.

leo-j saied,

"Ive lost hope.. I dont even know if what sony said was true about it being better than the xbox 360 in graphics.. "

==> I dont know too
let's say the 2 console are equal

"I dont think I should stay sony fanboy,I think sony lost. To both microsoft and nintendo. The ps2 owners dont want a ps3.. "

==> who is saying this ?
Xbox fan ? people on internet ?
that is all.
U can be sure that people will prefer buy a PS3 over an Xbox360
but right now, the price difference is huge and the PS3 is just beginning to get some interesting games.
There are a lot of people who are not used to check the lastest piece of news and that will prefer buy a PS3 than a Xbox360, particularly in Europe and Japan. Just wait a little bit more.

"everyone is saying its a failure and sales have been so bad,"

==> well, sales are not amazing that is right.
The price is just too high for the average player and there is not enought exclusive games.

"now someone from SEGA is managing SCEA."

==> and what is the problem with SEGA ?

" Thats it, I love the ps3 its the best system Ive ever bought. But its just that there is no chance it can make it.I am leaving this to nintendo and microsoft."

==> lol,
at least wait end of 2008 before leaving the PS3 side.

Remember Wii is currently focusing mainly on casual gaming

The Xbox360 still doesn't have MGS4/FFXIII and all the Sony exclusive games like God of war or GT5. I dont even mention the new IP (like Afrika/Unfamous ...).
Ace combat 6 + Eternel Sonata are coming on PS3 too.
Halo3 is nothing except for american fan boy.
Bioshock, the incredible game of the year is not even exclusive since it is aviable on PC too.

Remember that internet is biaised mainly by hardcore gamers and even more by American hardcore gamer who fear so much about Europe/Japan resistance to the Xbox360.
Overall, considering the console price+the games, the Xbox360 sales are pretty low ...

==> yes,
personnaly, I will buy the console that will have the games I want to play.
but, right now, I m supporting the PS3.
I just hope the games I want to play will come on the PS3.
if it is not the case then I will just buy another console.
(and yes I still prefer Sony to Microsoft (Ring of death + Windowshit creator))
(like I prefer Blizzard to EA (FIFA sequel))

That analogy only works on a base level. More often than not, sports loyalties lay on a regional basis and much of sports fanaticism comes from a "my suburb/city/state/country is better than yours", not a "company a is better than company b, even though we can both buy the exact same product anywhere".

There's a certain pride that comes from seeing your home team do well because, in many cases, they are a representation of the city and the people within. The same thing doesn't apply to products or companies because they're universal and have no ties to a region or city (well, other than their corporate base but that's such a small part that it doesn't apply).

I just don't get brand fanaticism, that's all. Will I buy products because the company usually produces high quality pieces, such as Apple? Yes, but that's based on my experiences with the company and the second they stop producing quality products that I want, I'll stop buying their crap.

I'm as loyal to a company as they are to me; in other words, I buy stuff that works well and has features I desire and the second the company stops providing those services to me, I stop providing them with my money.

 Man, was I the only one who rather liked Sunshine for its solid, if tame, gameplay and thought Wind Waker was a blase rehash with graphics and an overlarge ocean tacked on?

 I think GCN was the generation that Nintendo's stance on innovation saw the least delivery.  Which still garnered Metroid Prime and Pikmin...

I'll go with the "Who cares what place your system comes in, since there will be good games for it."

That's something that's held true to every system not called "Virtual Boy". Even Sega CD had a couple ok games.

Well ok, the Virtual Boy games wern't bad. It's just the red and black was a serious headache inducing monster.

I also go with who cares though I doubt the PS3 can ever catch up to the Wii or 360. I mean they are about to get whooped for a second straight holiday season not counting the initial 360 launch. Everyone knows install base means alot and both the Wii and 360 have it while the PS3 doesn't. Anything the PS3 does can be countered by the 360. Bottomline the Wii and the 360 have the price and games to ALWAYS stay ahead. Doesn't mean it will fail as it has been said many many times there is room for all 3 systems especially since all 3 systems have strong first/second party support to have their own unique games. Will be interesting to see how all of this develops in the coming months and even years :)
