even prior to forza and right when GT came out there was a licensed game with damage so the licensing thing is bull, just look for jarret and labonta stock car racing (i know i slaughtered the names)

J&L had every thing better then the first GT but marketing... I know the first time i took a bad corner and it took the wheel off my car even though I was in first on the last lap and it pissed me off damage and that game were the way to go... i was so pissed i lost that race at the time too

also @theprof00, clearly you know nothing about forza, so please stop

@MAN it does have ferraris and they do damage

the forza license does for-bay flip-overs though, and totaling, the J&L stock car racing did not

Why do people really care?

This is a genuine question. I'm not a big racing game fan, but I don't see why people care either.

Do you think the damage is actually good in Forza? I certainly don't; I always have it turned off in the options because it just looks rubbish, so I wouldn't really call it a selling point for the game.

I would just say, if they do introduce damage with Gran Turismo 5 and they bring it back for Forza 3, I hope in both cases that they don't do it half-heartedly. Go all out to make a stunning and realistic damage modelling and physics system, or don't even bother doing it at all - save some time and some money and give me both games a few months earlier as a result.

If they gonna make realistic damage, system, my car would never make to the finish.:)

People like crush into each other, that's what i was doing, in Forza 1 and Forza 2, with friends. It also eliminates the crush buddy system.

It puts more suspense in a game if you can blow a tire out from riding it too long, and stratagy if you trade a little paint... or just makes it more exciting ....

My thought exactly (my previous post)

^you can't be realistic without REALISTIC DAMAGE.

If Polyphony is ever going to include damage, then it has to be just as real as any other aspect of the physics engine. Forza 2 damage is not enough for the realism GT5 is striving for, if that's all they can offer/get the manufacturers to agree upon, then I'd rather have nothing. Not even Grid's damage engine is realistic enough.

Even though it isnt realistic enough, it is still infinitely more realistic than having no damage.

Most simulation racers have to pay for the licenses to use the cars. In those paid contracts they are able to secure the ability to damage the cars. Polyphony Digital is given free licenses to use vehicles, including many manufacturers that do not want to see damages on their cars. Forza does not have licenses with those certain cars or car makers either as far as I know. Since GT is being given free licenses(because of the popularity of the series) Polyphony has no bargaining rights to get the manufacturers to agree to the damage. For GT to implement damage, they'll either need to:

1. Cut out the car manufacturers that say no.

2. Bargain them into allowing it, even if it takes money for it to happen.

With strong sales in the car market every car maker seems obsessed with (U.S.A) do you think Turn 10 has enough clout now with 4M sales to get the same kind of bargain that Polyphony does?

No. GT is a name. Forza will never achieve that status.

Quake is a name, Unreal Tournament will never achieve that status...

Everquest is a name, WoW will never...
