Yes, its about this year. So if you want make a thread every month talking about how WW wii sales obliterate Ps3 sales, talk about how 360> PS3 worldwide go ahead.  THis thread is about PS3 beating the Wii by OVER 40K in the most insiginificant region. Make your own thread how Wii sales are double and triple the PS3 sales each week somewhere else.

@Euphoria: None of the games released that caused the PS3 to raise in sales were games made by Sony. Neither Sony nor Nintendo released any games so far this year that could move hardware. It was 3rd parties with RE5, Yakuza 3, SF4, Musou Orochi Z and FFXIII Demo that helped the PS3. Wii got crapped on by 3rd parties and that added to Nintendo not releasing a single meaningful game since last November made Wii lose a lot of momentum.

If both platforms would have received equal amount of big games, do you think PS3 would still be ahead of the Wii? I don't think so, because PS3 is only 10k units ahead of the Wii this year. And the Wii hasn't received anything worth buying since last year.

I agree though that Wii may never reach the level of sales it had before as momentum and popularity of the system has gone way down, but it's 100% sure that Wii will beat PS3 in sales again once third parties stop taking a dump on it and once Nintendo stops believing that 1 good game can carry sales for over a year.

As a Nintendo fan I have to agree with this. As I read in an earlier thread, Sony didn't roll the dice and come up with a $600 initial pricetag and Nintendo did not roll the same dice dooming them to a software dry spell: "Oh it looks like you rolled a seven. Now you can't release any successful game for awhile. Hope you don't loose too much momentum."

Well just to comment on the spring of comments to my original first.  No it doesn't mean it will recover 100%.  Actually I used sprained ankle for a reason.  I actually sprained my ankle when I was young and never recovered from it ever.  Went through having surgery and still a piss poor ankle.  Although I know other people who do it and a few weeks later get right back up.  The point was that the sprained ankle could just be a temporary setback or a life full inconveniences and pain.  Right now it looks like Wii is somewhere in the middle.

As trestres said and said later on as well along with myself, Nintendo has had this sprained ankle for awhile.  However, Sony has done nothing to capitalize it.  They have watched the emprie crumble to the ground and instead of executing the builders and supporters they have sat back and watched.  It's only been the 3rd parties, as trestres had pointed out, that has really given PS3 this edge as of late.  Without that, where would PS3 be right about now.  Because it's not doing so much better against a console that is at the bottom of its barrel right now.  Which goes to what trestres says, is how much longer does the luck last. 

But you miss the point.  Wii is still the market brand leaer in the console sector of the Japanese market.  Meaning yes it is guaranteed to come back until someone takes it from them.  Of course not 100%, because no one hurts their ankle that bad and comes back perfect. 

Nintendo and Sony have both been caught dumbfounded by everything that has occurred over the last 4 months in Japan.  Nintendo for some odd reason is unable to respond to an ailing console, even though they absolutely recognize it to be "unhealthy".  While Sony for the same odd reason has been unable to act upon the now unhealthy leader and attempt to come out on top before Wii recovers.  I don't know if it has to do with the current economic situation or lack of care considering the market share in Japan nowadays, but it is silly that both have been completely blindsighted by what has occurred.

So yea we've seen Wii and PS3 get these marginal "victories" and it's nice to celebrate them every now and then.  It's nice that PS3 for the first time in its cycle has outsold the Wii for 2 straight months.  But it has to mean something more to Sony to know that they have a chance to be an even stronger competitor instead of just a sprinter who gets a head for a moment while the other nurses its injuries. 

So as I said congrats to PS3, but shame on Sony and Ninty for not taking the situation seriously.

who cares it won't do much considering that ps3 outsold wii mainly because of FF13 demo and lack of wii titles in the past 2-3 months except Muramasa and japanese-centric hits that were constantly released on ps3(SF4, RE5, Yakuza 3) - basically sony and other publishers released almost every big title they had for japan this year. no ps3 didn't outsold wii every week in february.

for this year ps3 have only 4-5 more big games that can sell consoles in japan while wii have much more(MH3 will sell a lot of consoles) and in 2010 wii have Dragon MUTHA FUKA Quest 10 that will slaughter ps360 for a few weeks and probably FF Crystal Bearers as well and possible announcement for KH3 wii exclusive - that is already instant kill for ps3 in japan no mater how well FF13, versus and GT5 would do ps3 will never outsell the wii when it's already have almost 5 mln lead(even without KH3 and Crystal Bearers wii will still remain as the market leader in japan since FF13 demo proved that full FF13 game won't move great amount of hardware sam goes to versus and GT5)
