Forums - Nintendo - Iwata reconfirms intent to bring ‘Wii no ma’ video service outside of Japan

This is the big question. Obviously a service like this sinks or swims based on content, and Nintendo is known for being out-of-touch, especially where modern media is concerned (though their recent ad campaigns have generally been quite solid)

I just got the Dokodemo Wii No Ma on my DSi. It's useless without a Japanese Wii though. Hopefully it'll work with an American version of the channel, if it happens.

Except for that whole "Pokemon" thing. That got pretty big there.

Bring subtitles anime not yet localized!

I can live with the ads. Just give us the anime!

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

I doubt it, aside from some exceptions oriented towards younger viewers, anime has not been that successful in the west, it's still not really mainstream and very often not culturally neutral as Nintendo content tends to be (or tries to be). Given their recent strategy, I think what we're going to see is mostly very Western content (or at least content that has been successful in the West), as well as content that promotes their business such as Pokemon.

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

I didn't claim they were going to. I just stated I wanted it.

But subtitling them would not cost a lot, so being a smaller market wouldn't be too much of an expense.

Anime isn't big in the West? O_o That's...really wrong.

But I want anime with subtitles too! I don't mind the ads.

No it's not, it's a niche (with some exceptions of course) just as 'hardcore' gaming is a niche. If it was truly big in the West, you'd see it heavily on daytime TV and/or primetime TV on the major US and European channels. Do you?
