GT selling 15M on a system that hit over 120M was a great feat, but that was when it had no real competition.

When GT5 is released, it will be competing with Forza 3 (which will probably have been released before GT5) and be selling on a system with a much lower installed base than the PS2.

I'm guessing that without bundling, it'll do 4-5M sales. The GT series is losing steam. I have been through every GT made to 100% compeltion but I am at the point no that I don't even care if GT5 comes out. While I wait for that for what seems an eternity I played Forza 2 and now I see no reason at all to go back or remain excited for a game that doesn't exist yet.

Alot of the people that bought that $40 demo were more than a little dissapointed the game hadn' evolved in any way besides from a visual standpoint.

What part of GT3 was released on the PS2 with a 12 million userbase, but went on to sell 15 million....didn't you get?

Lets get past the sales, and look at this from a purly game standpoint. PS3 fans, you bash 360 and Wii fans for having games that have no innovation, and are just rehashs. Please, turn off your fanboy hats and look at Gran Turismo 1 through 4. Good, are you back? Besides Graphics what has changed? Nothing! Gran Turismo has not fucking changed one bit since it launched in 1997. The only addition is tracks, cars, and graphics. The actual gameplay is still the same 12 year old stuff we had on PS1.

People on this site should know two things about me by now.

1. I have all three consoles.

2. I love the PS3 1000 fold over the other two.

This is not just some rant post from a hater. This is a serious concern from a huge fan of the series. It is for reasons like these that I don't give a crap about sales, besides knowing if a game made profit or not. Marketing and brand name can do a lot to sell something that has once been great, but has not done anything since that first innovative act.

So instead of trying to say people are out of touch, and trying to deffend that GT will sell 10M. Go spend some usefull time telling PD that enough is enough, and we are not buying the same game again. Tell the your fellow consumers not to be sheep, and go buy GT just because it is GT. Inform people that GT is not what it used to be, and that they should consider a little bit of reaserch before they just drop $65 on a game that could potentaly be just another Gran Turismo 1 with prettier graphics, and more cars, and the same old tracks.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Yeah, it released on a userbase of 12 million, but it took the total 100+ million to gradually work up to the 15 million it sold.

Or do you think every PS2 owner at the time bought it and then 1/4 of PS2 owners actually bought 2 copies?

Also, let us not forget that half of the PS2's sold were just people who had to buy a new one when their old one crapped out.

GT5 will sell a pretty good amount but I would be willing to be it won't sell as much as GT4 because:

  1. It is a smaller base.  GT4 may have released to a smaller userbase but it was still out with the 100+ million userbase.  The PS3 will be lucky to get half that.
  2. Sony has lost a lot of ground in Europe and that's where this franchise is huge correct?
  3. There's more out there now

GT3 released on 12m and its succesor took over when PS2 was hitting 60m, first post in the thread kid.

What can't you understand ? serioulsdy what.

2 - a $40 DEMO out sold Forza2 in Europes even with 360 user base being more then PS3s, Sony may have lost ground but looks like it has no affect on GT there.  My opinion based on numbers.

I think you completely missed what I was saying, kid.

Yes, GT4 released to the 60million userbase but that doesn't mean it sold all the copies day one (or even year one).  It worked its way up to its current amount and that's because the PS2 sold more than 100 million units.

There's this concept of legs and that game has them.

@KBG29

Excellent post man, you pretty much hit the nail on the head with everything.

They should rename GT5 to GT5: Bumper cars in action. While I didn't own GT5:p I played it several times and all I can say is its to unrealistic. Maybe they will adjust that before the real thing comes out.

So previous GTs sold over time but the new one wont ? this foolish mentality is similar to the opinios of previous GTs selling only casue user base increased and foolishly implying PS3s user base wont grow at all.

Are you saying GT5 wont sale for a long time ? ohh i get PS3 is doomed by 2010 right lol.  Or maybe GT6 will come out 1 year after GT5 ??? maybe PS4 by late 2010 ?

By the way dont see how GT5 is more like GT3 and not GT4 ? being they are both the first GT of its gen and both will sale to the more hardcore gamers/early adopters not the casuals that come later in a consoles life ?

I never said this one won't sell over time, I'm saying the PS3 install base will be lucky to ever even get to 60 million so there's not much hope in it reaching as high of sales.
