It's a holdover from ancient times. Take Ancient Rome for example, it was perfectly acceptable for married men to have affairs but it was completely unacceptable for women to do so. It was also acceptable for men in general to have affairs with women of equal social standing and with men and women below their social standing. The entire double standard probably originated a very long time ago due to the lack of birth control methods and when dominance came mainly from physical strength (much like we see with different animals).

I'm also like luinil in the sense that some people might think I'm old fashioned, I personally prefer to call it having good morals.
Though I wouldn't go as far as saying 1 person for life... Love can happen more than once. I do think however it should be reserved to someone you love.
FUTHERMORE (IMO).... i would just like to say that guys do have to work harder to have sex with a girl.... if a girl comes up to a guy and says "do you wanna have sex" if the guy is not in a relationship or gay you have a very good shot at it..... just being honest here.....

To play the devil's adovcate here. There are no good morals, just because YOU think they are good doesn't make them any good. I may think good morals are drinking, smoking, and fucking every girl you can get your hands on.

Male sexuality is about 5 minutes of fun and bailing.
Female sexuality is about 5 minutes of fun and 9 months of puking all the time, and then having your vagina ripped open by a human skull, and then being stuck with a crying shitting barfmonster that wants to painfully suck on your nipples all day. And YOU are the one expected to quit your job to take care of the thing, while the daddy either skips town or stays at work and gets a promotion while your whole career is delayed for years or destroyed.
So from this biological difference we have created a social system where sex is good for men because it feels good, but bad for women because it gets them pregnant.
It's stupid and wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's where it comes from.
And it's related to the virginity double standard. Female virginity is somehow worshiped and male virginity is a joke to be wasted as young as possible in some weird macho competition. Men are expected to practice their sex while young before they settle down, and women are expected to stay pure until their wedding night. What's hilarious is that the only way for this stupid system to actually work is for all men to be gay until their wedding night.
