Compared to last gen, in which it was 45M. That's a 70% growth.

 

But that is, of course, because of handhelds. Handhelds have a GoG of somewhere around + 250%

 

(I'm not sure why I wrote that, most people should know it).

 

For consoles, there was around 30M sold last gen. I'm guessing for around 25M this gen (see numbers above). A slight drop, but that's not really too much to care about.

Still I agree, this gen the Japanese hardware market had grown a lot, and we will have at least 3 sistsems that will pass the 10 million mark, and maybe even multi ten million mark... software sales might be a bit down yoy but games like MH, FF and DQ will keep it up in the longrun ;)

 

Ah, Ps3 is at  3.2, not 2.2. Then 8-9M seems more reasonable indeed.

As for the  handhelds, I expect them to have a long way to go yet (lifetime wise), so it's not odd that you have it a bit lower (yours is probably better, as it is closer to the average belief).

It will grow.

Wii and PS3 will sale more then the previous gen. People got reasons to own both before they only went for the PS2.

 How will the "Wii and Ps3" sell more than the previous gen?

Wii alone did a great improvement over the GC.

Ps3 did a terrible performance compared to 6th gen (it certainly didn't improve in sales!)

Wii and Ps3 will sell far less than Ps2 + GC did.

 

The only console that is increasing is the one you didn't mention. Odd.

Cause no FF or DQ = lower sales.

Comapre sales after the biguns are released.  And a PS3 price cut.

Including the 360 in final JDM numbers is pretty pointless.

why this thread hasnt seen very trollish, most civil actually far more so then most threads, and pointing out a major concern or at least what should be. the shrinking of the home console market in japan, combine that trend with possibility that japan will have the worst of the world wide recession could make bad times for large Japanese based game makers. very bad stuff for those of us that love gaming
