Forums - Sales - HD War, Lets call it! N. America and Japan.

N. America

360-17.25 mil.

PS3-8.5 mil.

Japan

360-1 mil.

PS3-3.25 mil.

Killzone 2, Resistance 1 & 2 cant't even help the PS3 to move system in America where FPS games sell like hot cakes.  It seem like the PS3 really trying to grab the FPS fans in America to move away from the 360 this Gen.

With the effort M$ have put into all the exclusive JRpg in Japan it still can't grab the market share there.  On the other side the PS3 is getting stronger every month and no sign of them slowing down.

So what we have here is the 360 getting more JRpg to help them in Japan and the PS3 is developing more FPS to help them in them N. America.  While both try but seem their effort is not paying off.

I believe PS3 will eventually win in Europe/Other.  My question is can the PS3 winning in Japan and Other alone make up for their loss in N. America?

To your question: No, x360 its far away

The PS3 will most likely be in 3rd place, since the distance is quite big and Microsoft is always one step ahead of Sony in terms of price. By the time the PS3 reaches a truly acceptable price ($200-$250), the generation will almost be over and the PS3->360 gap will be more than 10 million instead of "just" 8 million.

I see the gap to be around 6-8 millions for the next 2 years. By the time PS3 outsells the 360 in others the gap will be around 6 millions consoles and all thanks to America. IMO the gap will never go over 10millions and never under 4

Nope.

360 has beaten PS3 in North America and that is pretty much a done deal at this point. Maybe next time Sony.

More FPS are not going to change that. The only FPS series that honestly can move hardware on its own is Halo. Resistance/Killzone sales are in line with stuff like Perfect Dark on the 360.

The gap is 8.15 million right now and growing (except this week due to PS3's Japan sales spike). How do you think the PS3 can reduce it to 6-8 million for the next two years?

I think it will near 9 million this year, if not more. Then in 2010, I don't see how Sony can shave 3 million off of that, so your 6 million number seems rather weird to me.

well microsoft have beaten sony on price and launching 16 months earlier.

so it may be difficult for ps3 to edge ahead of 360 this gen. mabey near end of gen, but certainly not in coming 2 years or so.

either way all 3 consoles would have done well this gen in sales. regarding best games thats another discussion.

By the end of the year, with all the releases PS3 will have the gap will be bellow 8 millions. In 2010 (with the assumption of a pricecut) PS3 will gain momentum in others and japan, while battling 360 in america (will lose though)...this way its not very hard to cut from the gap another 700k-800k. So in 2 years the gap can be under 7million.

To tell you the truth i can not see how gap can go over 10 or 11 millions in 2 years time. If you have a theory i'll be happy to hear it

Edit: That 2 years timeframe, i use it because in 2 years microsoft will start promoting x720. or so i think. After that the sales war will not matter. The winner will be the one that will stay the longer out.

@Cthulhu: I never said the gap will be 10 or 11 million in 2 years.

I think it will be around 9 million by the end of 2009, and then what happens in 2010 is hard to tell now. I wouldn't be surprised if the gap stayed around that amount in 2010 due to prices getting closer, perhaps 8-10 million.
