Forums - Sony - EA: Army of Two PSP absolutely not a port / the reason why it isn't for DS

http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=62037

WP: The original was a PS3 and X360 game, and with 40th Day, you're adding the PSP. Is it going to be its own game or a port?

AH: It's going to be in the universe of the main game. It's absolutely not going to be a port. I mean, it's not really even possible, going to the PSP. We want to let that game focus on the strengths of the platform, so it'll be more arcade-y in nature, and it'll be a different experience but in the same sort of world. We're still figuring out a lot of details.

WP: Why the PSP and not the PC or NDS?

AH: It just seems like a natural fit for the specific game as it is and the audience. It's an M-rated game and it's an action game, and that just seems to be a better fit for the PSP.

PC is for casuals confirmed.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Woah. They can actually tell that an M rated game wont sell on DS.

Im impressed.

So only M rate action game is fit to PSP? hmmm....that's the reason why PSP cannot catch up DS sales.

I doubt any reasonable person would explode.  As a player of Nintendo systems since 1986 I absolutely do not mind that there aren't many M rated games on the Wii.  I think it is clear that the audiences for the gaming systems are well stratified this time around, and I have enjoyed Brawl and Mario Kart just as much as I have enjoyed MGS4 and Uncharted on my PS3.

Two of those games are mass market, and two are niche that doesn't make them inferior - just different in philosophy.

Besides, though I will be buying Madworld eventually, if I am going to go for "realism" then I'm going to look at the high-poly system anyway (my PS3).  If I am looking for something more whimsical, then the Wii does just as well - look at the games I mentioned, plus SMG.

err.. and carry that on to the DS vs the PSP for there to actually be relevance.  However, I cannot comment in depth about those two as I only have a DS.

It seems like a pretty fair call on their part, but they should take a look at Call of Duty 4 on DS, which has still sold around a million--easily enough to justify a quick port.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?
